My railcar is rolling into the yard pretty much right now. Does anyone know if vehicles are unloaded the same day? Or do they have to break down the train before they can offload cargo?

The yard is about 10 miles from the dealership. They usually take a van full of sales guys and drive them from the yard to the dealer holding pen (wherever they are parked until PDI). Hopefully the process is pretty quick.

Mine arrived in Tampa rail yard on 12/9 and it's still there. The dealer told me today that they were showing it "arrived" this morning. My guess is it arrived last week but was unloaded today. The dealer is 15 minutes away.

The problem with the rail yards are not the rail yards. They have limited track space and the auto rack is a $250k asset. They turn them pretty quickly (<24 hrs). The issue is truck carriers to get it the last mile. There is a shortage of truckers and car haulers are not the most desirable trucking job out there. Any delay is in the trucking part of the delivery.

It all depends on the congestion at the railhead. If it's a busy yard for commercial drivers you will likely see a bit of a wait, but not nearly as bad as if it was going into a Port. (I work in logistics for a major online retailer)
