I've read at least half a dozen wheel threads today. Still I am concerned with making a choice about offset.

I have a stock non SAS OBX. After reading about tires and load ranges I think I have decided on Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T size 285/70/17

Question is about the wheels. I like the Method 305. Is a Method 17x8.5 0 going to give me too much poke? Should I go with a +18 or more + offset? I found this offset calculator in one of the threads. Going to post what I calculated to see if it's right.

Does this comparison of the stock OBX wheel and the new Method look right?

I am not really sure if 1.78" poke will be a lot compared to the stock wheels. They seem inset to the fenders now.

What do you think? Opinions welcome... I don't know how to really see what they would look like before I mounted them which would be too late to exchange.

Thanks

I have 0 offset methods, but mine is a Wildtrak so it has SAS. I think it’s the perfect amount of poke.

If you really want to go with methods and 0 offset, but think the poke is too much afterwards, you can always add SAS flares. Just a thought

The SAS wheel has a +30 offset. If you go with an 8.5" wide wheel with +18 offset you will stick out .5" more than a SAS wheel/tire. If you go 0 offset you will stick out 1.2" more than a SAS tire/wheel. I don't know what the stock offset of the OBX wheel is, likely +55 like the Badlands. If so, then with the +18 offset you'll stick out 1.5" more than with your current rims, and with 0 offset stick out 2.17" more....assuming the same tire size. Personally, I think 0 offset is too much poke, I don't like the look, I don't like that much more stuff thrown up from the road, and I don't want to unnecessarily increase the scrub radius and put more stress on the tie rods. I just ordered new rims +18 because it was the least I could find in a wheel I liked. I almost went with a Method 301 that comes in a +25 which would have worked well, but I like the wheel I choose better.

I have a stock Black Diamond, and put on BFG K02 in 285/70/17, mounted on Method 305 with zero offset. Yes, increased the poke and I think it looks just perfect.

Remedies I had to do, was to replace the stock crash bars with low profiles, and, for looks I replaced the stock flares with Sasquatch flares to cover the extra poke, and they are perfectly aligned tire edge with new flares. Here a pic

Too dark now but I can grab pics of my wife’s OBX in the morning with zero offset 9” fuel rims 35x12.50/17 stock flares. Then my OBX +18 offset 8.5” rims 37x12.50/17 with stock flares. She has a lot of poke. I have maybe half the poke she does.

Measure and envision lol, it’s all you can do. 2” isn’t crazy. I have -18 on my Jeep but that’s not a fair comparison as the fenders don’t cover as much on Jeeps.

I have a set of methods on mine with 285 70 x 17 nitto and I have a negative offset so my poke was a lot more noticeable and I had to remove the crash bars but I think it actually looks pretty good
