Would help if we could get a couple of members that have a Badlands and a BadSqutch to post their MPG numbers. Would help tell how much the 35" tires and rear drive ratio impact the real-world numbers. Is it thee 1-2 MPG drop everyone guessed it would be?

Thanks

I talked about this topic (among others) with my down-the-street neighbor who gave in and switched to a soft top. Ran into him Sunday evening as I was taking a walk. He just finished a weekend camping trip—has a Badlands… 2.3L manual transmission with the high package.

His numbers after just under two full tanks of 87 gas:
  • Reported by computer: 17.5 MPG
  • Real values (calculated by fuel receipts): 18.1 MPG
Based on how he described his trip, he probably spent three hours on the interstate, the rest of it was on the trails. Should also note he had two bikes attached to a hitch-mounted bike rack, so I’m sure that wasn’t great for gas mileage.

Doesn’t seem like the Bronco will win any awards for gas mileage, that’s for sure. But my 1989 Bronco 6-cyl only got 14 MPG… so ~18 MPG is a nice bump? I guess?

My badlands with2.7 on average 23mpg..but i dirive like a little old lady. Also my drive is more hwy and little city....
Well that's good news Bob. I don't worry so much about in town, or off road driving. But, we will use our Bronco as a long road trip vehicle also, and I'm happy to hear the Bronco will break the 20 mpg mark on the highway if driven normally.

375 miles on a badsquatch 2.7

Computer shows 16.4 with 50/50 mix hwy/city. Don’t know what fuel the dealer filled it up with. Costco 93 on the 2nd tank. Picked it up showing around 11mpg and it’s slowly gone up since.

Do you know how many miles the engine needs to get broken in stabilize mileage?

I’m 1,600 miles in (2.7 4 dr.) and had the oil changed at 1,200 (not trying to debate that, plenty of other opinions on it in another thread).
Im still hovering in the high 16’s only and it is mostly highway miles. every time I fill up I try to remind myself that I didn’t buy it for the gas mileage but ouch!
still love it!
EDIT: Elevation 3’

2.7L 4dr non-SAS. MIC top.
At about 800 miles on the clock now and was showing around 17 on the first tank. Last two tanks on 91 are around 18.5-19.5. All are in town mileage.

2700 miles on 2.7L, badlands 4dr. Soft top, 87 Octane, 3 - 840 mile round trips on beach and back. Running high 60mph high of 21.9mpg hand calculation. running high 70mph averages 20.3 again hand calculation. Did notice MTE when I filled up stayed at 373 miles for over 45 miles before it started to count down. Next fill up showed 427 MTE.

800 miles on my Badlands/Squatch. One 6 hour trip with a lead foot, the rest city driving averaging 15.3 with the 2.3. You certainly pay for speed on the highway 80+mph.
