Anyone service their rear brakes yet? And if you have done it what was the procedure to reset the rear caliper? If you have let the dealer do it for you, what did they charge you for the rear brake service?

I havenā€™t swapped the pads but did change both rotors. One thing I can tell you is with these broncos anytime you remove the rear brake calipers be certain to remove the negative battery cable or put the vehicle into brake maintenance mode. Otherwise you risk the parking brake setting and youā€™ll have a really bad time. To bleed the brakes youā€™ll need to be in brake maintenance mode as well.

Just replaced my brake pads over the weekend. Honestly, it took longer getting it into and out of maintenance mode than it did to change the pads.

Watched a video by @evilletruck which helped. Worst part was, to get back out of maintenance mode you have to hold gas, parking brake, (and what I eventually figured out), use your left foot to press brake pedal in.

It's not as difficult as it sounds, and it is doable. Just frustrating when you think you're doing the steps correctly and end up missing 1 stupid thing.

I will add, you will notice the difference between the modes as well. In maintenance mode the pedal just goes to the floor.

I still can't get brake maintenance mode to work.

Not sure if it's because I have a 2.3 and/or the 7MT. I suspect it just isn't a thing on the 2.3 because we have the old school vacuum brake booster instead of the electronic one - but could never confirm it.

Makes sense to me. Apparently the problem is when the electronic park brake decides to set itself with nothing to clamp the pads against. Gonna have a bad time.

Yeah, very true. The 2.3 and 2.7 have the same e-brakes though, which was why I was trying to get it to work in the first place. But yeah, just pulling the battery cable more or less fixes that problem.

I haven't had to bleed the brakes yet, like the OP is asking - I have heard you either need Brake Maintenance Mode and/or FDRS to do that... wonder if it's the same way on the 2.3s or if you can old school bleed them just fine?

I remember a post here where someone did replace the rotor and bled them, said the brake pedal felt fine and braked fine, but they couldn't get an error code to clear until they hit a button on FDRS. Didn't catch which engine he had though. Kinda makes sense with the EBB - it may need a recal or something. Not sure it applies with the vacuum booster or not, but knowing Ford - probably.

On ours after the portal installation we had to do a full bleed. I have one error coming up intermittently that refers to insufficient or overpressure in the system. It isnā€™t there upon start up and randomly comes on with city driving but also goes away. This was with old school pump and hold bleed method. Iā€™m feeling like thereā€™s a tiny bubble in the front brakes somewhere that Iā€™m just not able to clear the old way, so I ordered a venturi style bleed system and will try that out when it shows up.

If you didnā€™t swap out brake lines and are just bleeding basic stuff Iā€™m betting the conventional bleed is fine though. Gotta be in brake maintenance mode to do it though. (I played around with it just to see. Bronco didnā€™t like the bleeder being cracked in normal mode šŸ˜‚)
