Installed a rope hoist for the rear top. Once rigged up I put a “Taylor” luggage scale on it to measure the weight. I got 69.4 lbs. I rigged up 2 double pulleys and it takes about 17lbs to lift the top.

I used 10’ straps and I have a 10’ ceiling. For my rig 9’ (possibly 8’) straps would have worked better. I almost run out of lift. I put a boat cleat on the back wall to lock it in place off the ground and have a lag bolt going into a truss on the ceiling. It only takes one person to remove the top.

Once the new MIC top gets here I weigh that one as well.

My (probably unwarranted) concern would be deforming the top by supporting it this way. Maybe add some sort of spacer/spreader across the bottom to counter the inward focused stresses that are being induced by your rigging.

We have published weight of all of the panels and rear clamshell, as well as the soft top. I think it came from BN

Any worry about the straps putting pressure on the weather stripping in those 2 places on the front while lifted?

Just wonder if its on the lift for several months if you would then have permanent indentations on the weather stripping.

Edit: or is that hard plastic on the front where the straps are and not weather stripping?
My main use is to lift the top off, move the Bronco and lower the top to ground level. In northern Michigan it’s not likely the top will stay off longer than a day or two.

Here’s my version for my Jeep and allows 1 person to remove or install and can park under it. Has a great simple hand crank (you can kinda see it middle rear of car on wall). I plan to slide the first supporting 2x4 back a foot or so and then this should also work for the Bronco rear clamshell. Now if I could just break it out of Dirt Mountain:mad:

I actually don’t mind the sway, it helps me line up the top to the Bronco. I do worry about the single lag in the ceiling, but from my research a 5/16 lag will hold over 200lbs. I use one hand on the rope and one hand guiding the top in place.
I think the single point attachment will work as you hope, but I have concerns about applying the 69 pounds vertically in one location regarding the rafters. I would run a 2x4 perpendicular to your rafters engaging 3 of them. Then your single point attachment is applying the vertical force across the 3 rafters instead of the one. Even if you went along the one rafter, you're at least distributing it across some length opposed to the one point.

I like the setup either way though. The sway does sound like it's to your advantage!
