This will be my first vehicle with an exposed spare tire on the back. Assuming I don't want a cover, what's the best way to protect it from the Texas sun? Treatment? Periodic rotation?

I’m not being a smart ass but I’ve never done anything to the other 4 that are exposed to the same elements 🤷‍♂️
Not quite the same level of exposure but I hear you. May be a non-issue.

I will definitely include it in the rotations, that should be enough and will assure even wear for all of them. Plus give me some extra time before I have to buy new ones. I can't stand covers, so which ever one gets to hang around in the back will just have to deal with it.

Definitely want to have it in the rotation and it will extend the life of all the tires. And when the time comes, buy 5 new ones.

Care for it the same as you do for the other four.

I think that the cover is more of an appearance thing than a practical need. My Bronco II had one and it looked great. Wrangler did not, and it still looked great. Neither were better or worse for the wear. I plan on getting the cover for the '21 because I like the look.

The camera location is pretty annoying.. it will have to be moved to fit a trash/utility bag on the spare tire.
I do prefer to cover the spare tire on my trucks, mostly because the bag is useful for dirty stuff I don't want in the cab. just rotate it in to the mix with the other 4 tire and your fine.

No doubt there will be relocation kits out shortly for it.

Just include it in the rotation. My FJCruiser had an exposed spare and I included it with a new larger tire when I went with 33s.

Funny, the only vehicle I've ever owned with an exposed spare that was not included in the rotation is the '75. Well it was included early on then stayed the stock spare when we went with larger tires and cut fenders early in its life. Still have the stock tire on the grey steel rim.
