my X is disabled and I cannot access anything until I restart usually.
Ok. It does sound like they have found an issue to fix. So hopefully they just fix the issue and don't try fixing things by removing the whole option.

Mine is a '21 in that range and have never had this issue. One would think if it were software that it would be consistent. Hopefully they don't break something in the process...
It only happens to me in 4L. Not sure if it’s because I’m staying in lower speeds, or if it’s related to being in 4L. Never a problem in normal street driving

So does this mean that you can no longer choose to delay when the camera shuts off? Is this really an issue or did some people complain because they couldn’t find the settings for this?
I’ve turned off the delay setting and still have the problem. It’s almost like the delay setting is ignored in 4L or something 🤷

Guess we have an upcoming over the air recall. Thank goodness because it’s been super annoying when off roading for me.

Official Recall Notice:
Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2021-2022 Ford Bronco models over a rearview camera issue.
The defect: in affected vehicles, the rearview camera image may still be displayed after a backing event has ended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility.”
The hazards: a rearview image that continues to be displayed after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse may distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
Components: rearview camera
Affected vehicles: select 2021-2022 Ford Bronco models produced at the Michigan Assembly plant from September 23rd, 2020 to May 18th, 2022.
Number of vehicles affected: 47,046
The fix: dealers will update the SYNC module software, which can also be completed via an over-the-air update, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on December 19th, 2022. The Ford reference number for this recall is 22C27.
Contacts:
  • Ford Customer Service: 1-866-436-7332

unless your OTA updates are simply not working properly.

Is this something that effects automatics only? I hardly look at my screen, I look at those two strange things located just outside the window and the little thing in the middle of the windshield.

You won't lose the rear-delay feature. That's separate from this issue.

Since Sync uses canbus messages to determine when to display the cameras, I'm guessing there's a unique value that only occurs in very specific scenarios that they forgot to account for, so Sync doesn't realize you're not in reverse anymore.

I played around a bit on my Flex, the message Sync3 used included current gear, rpm, vehicle speed, and ignition mode. Usually the gears were 0x00 (park), 0x10 (reverse), 0x20 (neutral).... but in very specific cases the gears were 0x0F, 0x1F, etc. Never did figure it out why.

Ya, good luck to you on those OTA updates. I waited a year for any updates on my Bronco and finally had to force them myself.

Has anyone had this successfully resolved through an OTA update?

The recall shows up in my FordPass app suggesting the update hasn't gone through - which is strange as previous updates *have* managed to be applied.

Interesting that keeping the rear camera on is against the law (federal regs) but GM that offers a remote camera for the back of a trailer to allow you to "see" through your trailer as if it isn't there is fine and dandy.
Funny...I was thinking the same thing. Mostly that many newer cars are using rear camera feed and display that digitally on the rear view mirror full-time instead of a standard mirror.

Sorry, I misspoke.
It shows on the FordPass account dashboard when viewed on a desktop browser.
