2022 OBX (so body colored mirrors) built the 4/9/22. The whistling noise drives me nuts! I thought the windshield recall may be the issue until I saw this. I am having the recall done next week so I will put this on my list. Thanks to the OP.

a little off the subject but since we are talking about whistling, mine develops a mean whistle but only when I’m pulling my side by side on the trailer. Anyone else notice this when pulling a trailer?

Just an input. I also have whistle noise coming from my side mirror area and realized it wasnt the mirrors causing the noise but its the window seal near the mirrors not sealing all the way and causing the noise. I pushed the rubber seal against the window and the noise stopped.

I noticed this as my buddy has a 22 and I have a 21. I’m assuming it has to do with the mirror whistle everyone was complaining about on the 21s.
Interesting. Ford sometimes listens!

Is it only the lines that are the difference between the two? Might be the angle or the shading but it looks like the shell has different bend lines. The shells look differently shaped but i don’t have my bronco yet for comparison. 701 days waiting🤬

Second time I’m seeing this today. Saw posted on FB these are the replacements to alleviate the whistling. But, what on earth would those little wings provide? Kind of an eyesore, no?

I'd guess that it has something to do with biomimicry.

My 22 has a December 23 build date and it does not have them. At around 40-50 mph I get a whistle some times. Can lay a finger on the outer edge and noise stops.

Noise is most noticable with doors off. It's not loud, but just loud enough to be annoying.

Earlier builds could probably add their own strakers - anything to disrupt the turbulence & cavitation or just copy the three lines of '22 builds

Do any of the painted mirrors have the lines?

Jan '22 build, I have the whistle but no vortex generator. It happens with top on, sunder back windows open or shut. Makes no difference.

I've seen where some have had success with a small bead of silicone on the mirror seam to stop it. I just keep forgetting to try it, I only remember I have the whistle when it starts whistling'.

Early MY '22 Jan build. No strakes on mine. Hard top, I don't know that I've noticed the whistling, I get lots of noise from different locations. Most of my driving is under 50 so it maybe it's not present as much at that speed.

The Root Cause of the whistling noise is the sharp outside mold line. It's like the hole in the mouthpiece of a flute. If you put a piece of painters tape over it for an experiment, it stops. Then you can decide if you want to smear some black RTV or use some black electrical tape over the edge.
