That's not a chip...that's a gash! I would try to touch it up yourself and smooth it out.

Bronco is probably totaled now. :ROFLMAO:
The picture makes it look bigger than it is. It's only about 1cm long, maybe less. I will probably get some quotes for a repaint from some body shops. I got a few different recommendations from a local Facebook group. I'd rather get it done right.

What would you call it
More like a gash than a chip. It looks like jagged metal hit the Bronco and not just a rock. Especially with it cutting so deep into the primer and exposing metal.

I definitely would have noticed something like that if it happened while I was driving. Now I'm wondering if this happened while it was parked somewhere or if it was vandalism.

I'm now considering getting this done after I get this fixed. How much did it cost and is this something the body shop can do as well?

Front of the hood. I'm not sure PPF would have prevented this. I's pretty deep.
If it's on the front 6 inches or so....touch it up for rust prevention and then cover it with the hood deflector.

Yea likely not completely prevent it with PPF but a hood deflector probably would have saved it, I was thinking for after the fact a quick touch up and a hood deflector can conceal the damage and protect it from future damage.

Weird you didn't hear that unless it happened while it was parked, never know kids and passing cars throw rocks....

Was it from being "ducked" or "bucked"? I know there is a lot of concern about that damaging paint on here...

Sorry - that sucks!

I thought the hood was aluminum . . . or is it some aluminum-steel blend (and, if so, why)?
Whatever it is, I would paint it to seal the area and then cover it with the hood deflector.

Wow, yeah I agree, that's not a rock, you could offroad that canyon! Maybe a work truck backed into your hood in a parking lot and a piece of rebar or metal scraped your hood. That's the pits (pun intended). Too bad dentless paint removal won't help.

I think it will depend on the shop. The whole vehicle was about $5k, not cheap, but worth it to me

I had what I thought was a pretty good rock chip this weekend. The one thing that I thought was odd was I figured I would have heard something based on the chip but I never heard anything hit. Of course, the Bronco at highway speeds is super loud so that probably doesn't help.

I just touched mine up as best I could and will deal with it. I'm sure it won't be the last.
