Been thinking about what I’m going to end up building for my rock crawler. Problem is that if Bronco can only tow 6000# with the manual... that would be pretty low for a built wrangler on 40’s/tons/etc. My buddy told me about the rock lizard chassis, seems pretty slick honestly and would probably be a good 1500# lighter than a Wrangler build, and more capable to boot. Any of y’all thinking similar?

Tube frame buggy with ton axles and a V8. Hard to go wrong with that combo if the person putting it together has the right skills.

Low?? I'm @ 62/6300 on the heaviest FSB, 43 SX's on super heavy Staz steelies, 404's
(which aren't that much heavier than 60/14, but it all adds up). That includes EVERYTHING
including even a separate box with a battery powered "suitcase" MIG, dual 3G's alts, and
2000W inverter (and small arg/co2 tank).

Also includes full EXO with mostly 2" tube. Are heeps really that heavy built??

Most built jeeps are around 4-4500 pounds. But add in a trailer and you’re pushing 6500.... that’s a lot to tow with an SUV.

You could put a tow bar on it and flat tow.

With the trails I’m going to doing... no guarantees that it will be safe to flat tow by the end of my trip:oops:

Plus I want trailer brakes. Out here in AZ it’s 100% needed for a lot of our highways. 7% down grades for several miles aren’t uncommon out here.

Right, wasn't even thinking trailer...........

My 14K, 26 foot alum trailer is only 2100. I've seen shorter alum's not that much over 1000.
not cheap, but could get you under..............

I drove to this place for my 26 footer in Mich, due to price. Here is a 16 foot

Best part about that company is they will mod it in any way you want for a little extra. I even
had them move axles (to keep overall tongue weight OK, with heavy truck pretty far back),
as I eventually wanted to have small camper on front (but not all the time).

Can’t remember what my buddy called a setup like this. Redneck camper or something?

He was out in Parker this past weekend, one of the people there had this setup except instead of a bed camper they had a garage with their motorcycles and tools, rock crawler on the back, and were towing it behind a badass RV. Pretty slick setup.

My goal was to stay under 10k total, As I didn't want to go 5th wheel. I also didn't want the camper permanent (got into road racing recently, and I think I can fit EVO and my buddies Z06 on one trailer).

Camper is very bare bones, only 1100 lbs. designed for rodeo guys who pull really heavy trailers, but want something light that fits in 8 foot bed. It has stand up shower, AC/Heat, water heater, 2 beds (one turns into table) and audio/video system. Made by Capri.......

I wonder if they are going to make camper for the 4 door.
