Yeah. That's why I asked about the bronco ones because people were talking about the rust on the F150s.

Agreed that its not a big deal....but these things are spanking new. You would hope they have a little less surface rust....

89 posts in the thread regarding rust and corrosion issues for F150. Yea, this topic has been hit and the answer there is the same as the answer here.

Please don't take this as an insult, but you should have tried to do a simple search first. Had you posted this in the existing thread it would have also gained more traction and built upon the existing conversation.

It's great that you have some key words. Check the thread, it has your answers, plus the purpose for using a metal which will quickly develop a protective and predicted scale.

My raptor has 0 rust in 8 years but my brand new f250 has a rusty driveshaft. Seems legit.
Ford is cheapening their undercoatings and 2020MY was the start of lots of cost cutting.

The entire rear axle was not painted on my 14 Stang, let alone the driveshaft. Had to do it myself.

Here is a used E-bay one. Only thing Ford painted was diff cover.

And mine...

So I would be happy at least Ford painted the whole rear diff assembly on the bronco (or so it appears), as that wasn't the case in the past.

At the risk of upsetting some trolls or the uninitiated, I'll answer the question. Same reason they stopped painting the fuel tank on the space shuttle; it is a waste of time and money. The "rust" is only surface rust and before it has time to go deep the service life of the part is over. Yes, I dated myself with the example, I was born in '31, get over it.

Most of the buyers of automobiles do not care, they are to busy worrying about the body paint color and rims. Personally, each time I buy a new truck spray painting the drive shaft is on my list of things to do and yeah I do it for cosmetic reason, none of us are perfect, we are just monkeys full of snakes. Different things matter to different people.
