I truly am worried about how many people are going to go underwater or make a dumb decision because of this thing. It's just another one of those things that has crept into our culture without keeping up with wages for most people. What's really eerie to think about is that more and more states are moving towards banning oil fed cars in the next twenty years; and the fact these broncos could last double that.
Everyone has their different life lessons. Owning a house and 2 cars at 30, assuming you're not underwater on them, is awesome. I shared before on this forum that I had a coworker that traded in his underwater cars every two years and now drives a car where the loan is like $88000 for a car that cost much much less. That's like 2007 stuff. Stay away from it. Both you and I will make mistakes still, but that's how life is. I can afford a decked out Wildtrak or Badlands and it's calling me bad, and I catch myself convincing myself that I should just do it. Haha. Then I have to stop and remember I created a budget for a reason and need to be out the door under $45k. I'm driving to Iowa to pick it up. I want the winch. I can't have it. Maybe in 2 years.

If I was young again and made decent $$ I would put that $$ down to buy a home or investment property after I made myself debt free first....
Then when you get a little older pay cash for the exact Bronco you want without compromise.
Debt can be a huge burden (financial slavery) why trade your freedom for a chunk of metal with wheels

You might want to consider this: https://www.verywellmind.com/hedonic-adaptation-4156926
That's not possible with the current B&P, for some anyway.

3 year financing was the standard not that long ago. Once people started being dumb enough to finance over 5 or 6 years it ALLOWED manufactures to jack up prices because many people just look at the monthly payment. I am in the mindset of if you are not able to pay it off in 3yrs, you probably shouldn’t buy it... taking advantage of 0% financing for longer term is another topic.

Any new 4x4 that's quality costs quite a bit these days, fact of life. Just keep working and saving, it will pay off. I lost my business, house, and everything else back in 2007 in the great recession. Ended up with an 88 F-250 and what I could put in a U-Haul trailer as my whole world. 13 years later I'm buying a Bronco as a toy. Hopefully people won't be breaking the bank to drive a vehicle, there are always used 4x4's that are just as fun and Bronco's will be everywhere in a few years time.

Just to cheer you up a bit. When I was young I had a used 1976 Ford Courier and was envious of the rich kids driving Broncos and Trans Ams. I always wanted a Bronco but it never worked out. I am now 54 with a house and family and work blue collar jobs but we save money pretty well. I will now be buying my first Bronco with cash and it’s not my daily driver. You will get there and I think you’re making the right decision by waiting. Sorry for the old guy talk.
I'm 54 also and this is the first car that I will buy that isn't a base model. And I'm still struggling with the thought of doing it. But I really want the mid package driver-assist stuff and it's been a lifelong dream of mine to have a car that dog fur doesn't get woven into. It feels like it's a good time for me. It's expensive, but it's a once in a lifetime thing.

This reminds me of Harley Davidsons. When I was young, Harleys were cool bikes that normal people drove. By the time I was in my 20's or 30's, they were so expensive that it seemed like most of the people on them were 50 years old or more.

I agree with other posters - the 5% on the site is high. And that it's perfectly reasonable not to wait (until you're older) for the dream if you can swing it.

Agree with all of this. There's a lot of data showing that people are taking out bigger and longer loans for cars these days and are ending up getting themselves severely under water.

I realized I never answered your question about my situation... Yeah it's definitely coming a bit higher than I had hoped. I was going for the black diamond but now am thinking of a base with a lot of options. The things I care about that I would be losing are washout interior, bigger/better tires, and rear locker. The difference is $7,000 which is dramatic. I think the only thing that I would truly miss is the rear locker (and stronger axle). I'm also considering getting a much older jeep and keeping the 4runner instead. Either way this is definitely a toy but I also feel it may be the last of it's kind (especially with a 7MT).

That's awesome. Thankfully I didn't lose everything, but made the decision to get debt-free. Took a few years and it takes off so much pressure not owing money.

Had a Black Diamon reserved. Was thinking it would be around $600/month tops.

I realized the build and price calculator automatically factors in 10% downpayment and slowly realized this is not going to happen for me.

I am young and make pretty good money. I have two cars, an F150 ecoboost and a 2SS Camaro. I was going to sell both to pay for the Bronco if needed. But $700/month for a car is outrageous. Even the base model with any extras puts you over $600 a month with no down payment and excellent credit for a 60 or 72 month loan. Seeing as I don't even have a family yet, there is no way I would ever be able or willing to swing this.

Anyone else coming to this realization too? It kinda sucks. If 4x4 is your thing and that's what you want to spend all your money on, then this is probably a pretty decent option. But I am worried a lot of people might spread themselves a little thin with this one. I am going to keep my older cars and enjoy the best of both worlds. To all of you who are committed and/or have the luxury of affording such a beautiful piece of machinery, I wish you the best! Enjoy it for me.
You must not be putting much money down if your payment was 700 a month plus that was for 5 percent interest rate no one knows what the rate will be at time of purchase hopefully lower if you have good credit you can probably get zero percent interest threw credit union and your payments would be cheaper. I myself plan on putting down minim 15000 on my black diamond plus I got a trade in .I’ll prob put down more though cause car won’t arrive earliest June 2021

I'm not sure when this happened, but we've become very desensitized to new car prices.

A $40-$50,000 vehicle is *ludicrously* expensive, especially in the context of a median American income. It's good you're being realistic about what is essentially just a toy, and not worth any kind of financial hardship.

The calculator also doesn’t figure taxes, which is anywhere from $2,000-$5,000 depending on your State.

I’m in your same boat, once x-plan dropped and then seeing the build prices and payment and then figure in taxes, even with $12k down i’m looking at $550 a month for 72 months for my $47k built Outer Banks.

For $47k I can get a decent used truck AND a Razor Turbo or Offroad beast of some sort.

You’re young and no family yet... my take is, save and do what you can to make it happen if you really want it. Once you start a family priorities change and your funds get spread out. Get the 4-door then you would be planning for that family. Best wishes to you!

These kind of threads are pretty funny. A single young guy with an F150 and a Camaro complaining that he can’t afford a Bronco and looking at a monthly payment. No shyatt you can’t. He has two expensive cars now. Apparently they are underwater because he is looking at a payment with nothing down. Spend less. Earn more. Save more. Then you’ll be able to buy what you want. This Bronco is very competitively priced compared to a massive good selling competitor. It is priced as it should be, maybe even low for where they should have priced it.
