I did a search, but could not find anything that answers this question.

Can you drive around with only the first two sections of the MIC top installed, without the rear section?

it doesn’t look like there’s anything that will keep the first two sections from moving around without the rear section also installed.

Some people have done it. The panels are loose though so try at your own risk.

Um, no. You will rely on two hold down positions instead of four. MIC tops are tough enough to come by new, imagine what a replacement request will wind up being?

Thanks for the quick replies. I had a feeling this was the case.

I just wanted to ask in case there was some way to do it safely that was not obvious to me.

While Ford says no it is probably safe at slower speeds and there are some older pics of Ford engineers doing so at Moab.

Last week I followed a guy (A51 FE with hockey stripe and script badges) who had the front and mid panels installed with the clamshell removed and he was doing about 50mph. He then proceeded to get on the highway and up to 70mph. I was following (actually paralleling) him for a few minutes and did not see any top movement or witness any carnage. That said, I would NOT do the same with out a bracket or clamp securing the mid panel.

Ran for mine for a couple days with the first and second row panels on. Over 200ish miles at speeds up to 80, no issues. When I get my MIC 1.0 replaced I’m gonna liberate the rear brackets from the back cap and get some aluminum to fab a cross bar so you can utilze the 3 quarter turns for the center panel even though it’s not needed.
