Hello All,

I saw the below quote in another thread, mentioning that all Sasquatch packages have the front crash bar removed to allow for wheel clearances and all crash tests are done with that bar installed (non sas Broncos).

Anyone have more information about this? Is there some aftermarket crash bar that can be installed for safety? Anyone very knowledgeable on this type of stuff?


"IIHS tests on the Bronco are all models equipped with crash bars and they fared well on all tests except headrests and headlights.
IIHS has not tested Sasquatch-equipped Broncos so it's hard to say if removing the crash bar has a significant effect on its performance in tests like the frontal small-overlap crash."

There’s a handful of companies that make high clearance crash bars that will clear 35’s yet still have the safety of the bars there.

I cut the brackets entirely off.. the front one looks beefy, but it is a welded square tube. i would say 60% of the bracket doesnt touch the frame at all.

Damn, what a great video. Thank you for sending this shit so you didn't have to try to type it out. So the black bracket REMAINS installed on the Sas broncos, Ford just removs the bar that extends out of it.

Do you know if this is also at the rear wheels?

It looks horrible... why would they leave that beefy thing in there if it's only purpose is for the body mount. Too hard to place a smaller, similar effectiveness, part at the factory? :unsure:

Now to research if its still beneficial to have an aftermarket cross bar installed for road safety...

Edit: I know swapping out a part is not that simple during the factory process. I've seen some of you knowledgeable people explain how complex it can get...

No. You'd probably be better off contacting the companies that make them.
I've never personally used them.

The best way to improve your safety in the Bronco is to not crash your Bronco.

That obvious fact stated, Sasquatch Broncos have held up incredibly well in real world crashes, so the crash bars seem somewhat unnecessary.

Agreed! Unfortunately you can't control other drivers, only try to be proactive and maybe reactive to a shitty situation.

The MOUNTS are there on sasquatch equipped vehicles, but the actual metal crash bars are not installed.

there are no crash bars on the rear tires.

None of the companies offering high-clearance crash bars have crash-tested their products, to my knowledge. I'm sure something is better than nothing, but we don't have much more to go on than the eye test and whatever material data they're willing to share.
Crash test data on Sasquatch-equipped Broncos seems to be missing as well. The front small overlap crash would likely be the most relevant test here. The only tests I can find are IIHS tests on non-Sasquatch equipped Broncos (Outer Banks?) that performed well with the crash bars in place.

What people are calling the crash bars are steel tubes, squarish in cross-section, that protrude out from beefy base structures. Most of the bar sticks out and the rest is inside its receptacle to hold it in place. The bars run at right angles to the frame rails. Here are photos of the bars.

The crash bars are there to "capture" the tire, for loss of a better word, during a frontal collision. The tire would be squeezed between the front and rear bar during impact. They help prevent a tire/wheel combo that sits inside the fender from being pushed up into the passenger footwells. On the Sasquatch pkg they are removed since that wider tire/wheel combo sits partially outside of the fender and will act as its own crash bar.
