Picked up some spalted maple boards. Used some 1/8” foam tape on the bottom and some sides to make sure no rubbing against the interior panels..

Not crazy about the finished stain color. If it doesn’t grow on me, I might sand it down and change it to a gray stain. Overall, pleased with the design.

Beautiful!

That looks like ambrosia. The staining is caused by the tree protecting itself where the beetle bores in. Spalting has a more spiderwebed look to it that is created by the start of decay.

That looks awesome! How did you add the logo? Just by freehand?

Looks really good ... I'd be afraid now to actually use it for fear of scratching it up.

Nice! I'm thinking of doing something similar instead of shelling out $$$$ for the Ford Cargo Cover.

Nice work!
I covered mine in boat deck matting to protect it from the elements and give it a more rugged look.
I have since abandoned the whole thing as I found it to be a better idea in theory than practicality.
At least for me.
True it was an additional flat surface to carry some stuff.
But I found it to be more in the way for most anything I put in the bottom, and too low for the cooler I take on trail rides.
YMMV and it may be the best thing since sliced bread for a lot of ya'll.

In this OP's case, looks well built and the Bronco decal on the end cap along with the dark streak of grain and stain looks quite nice. I'd be afraid of actually using it and scratching the finish!

I'd be curious if anyone else with a shelf there has run into the same conclusions and had to accept usability constraints like I have.
OR do I just need to adapt to a different cooler setup...
I like the idea that the kids can just reach around to the back and open up the lid, get a cold water out at will, while in motion vs. having to stop and get out, open the gate, etc.

I use mine all the time. But not for the needs you describe.

I use it as way to increase my storage square footage when things just can't be stacked on each other. For example when I was hauling some plants for my wife.

Nice - I went with the arts & crafts route as well. some 1x10 select pine planks cut down to 8" , Criicut machine to create a Raptor logo template to router out and then pocket hole jigged and glues together to make a 24" x 48" sheet. Shou Sugi Ban torching method and then scraped out, blue dye, black epoxy outline, then filled with my version of code orange epoxy, then 3 coats of clear epoxy (including the final flood coat)
