So you might remember me from this
Update-Situation fixed-So my Bronco has come in.... & marked up 10k by DCH FORD OF EATONTOWN:
Or the cliff notes version
2021 Staff Pick: A Bronco Reservation Holder Tried To Go Up Against A Ford Dealer Over A Markup And Lost (Update)
So I figured its time for a post mortem of what has transpired since then.
So I placed my order for my 2022 Big Bend after all that at the end of October. Not much happened for a while for me. I had a few people reach out to me who had orders through DCH at the time and when their Bronco came in they paid MSRP on it after my debacle.
The Bronco specialist reached out to me around Christmas time to ask me to send them an email saying I refused my order so they wouldn't lose their allocations for the next year. Yeah I know, but I didn't want to have my build at this time backed up anymore then it needed to be. So I sent the email over and asked to have the towing package removed on it to hopefully get it scheduled for production sooner. I really didn't need it and the primary thing I was planning on using it for was to mount a bike rack, so I'll just add the hitch some time down the road.
My Bronco had its VIN assigned at the end of January 2022. I got an email from Ford saying it was supposed to built at the end of March, but the build take slipped all the way back to May 13th and wasn't finished till the 16th.
It got delivered to the dealership way ahead of its expected ship date of June 13-19..it showed up May 27th and I took delivery of it May 28th.
Here it is at the dealership before It was prepped for pickup:
So I've had it for about 48 hours now and I've put about 100 miles on it (it had only 7 when I got it!)...its a completely different experience for me car wise...my past cars have had a performance bent to them-I had a '86 Escort GT as my first car, two Mustang GTs and my car prior to this was a 2013 Taurus SHO.
My first impressions:
It drives really nicely-the suspension is a bit firmer then I expected, but also the tires where overinflated until yesterday afternoon.
The 2.7L V6 is nice so far, but I have a feeling due to the 1K break in period, I'm not seeing its full power. I can break lose the rear wheels (I've had the Traction control light kick on a few times...oops LOL)..MPGs aren't terrible either, even with me having a lead foot and it no where being broken in either.
I love the size of it-I hated how long my SHO was-made it a pain to park at times and generally just felt unwieldy to me at times driving it-it was an awesome highway cruiser with nice power though. The 4 door Bronco is slightly longer then an 2017 Escape, but wider and much taller.
I'm mixed on the storage space-but I've also never had a vehicle come with a tool kit nor a bag to put the front roof panels in. Not a huge deal overall, but just something I noticed
The removable top (at least the front two panels) is an awesome setup. They are pretty easy to remove and reinstall, even with the roof rack, which makes it slightly more tricky to take on and off. For those who don't have their Bronco yet, the latch that is closest to the front windshield and door (it "pinches" the roof close) has limited room to get out due to the roof rack. Overall I'd give it a 9/10 without the roof rack and a 7.5/10 with the roof rack, due to the limited space involved. Still need to figure out the best way to get them into the bag and the QR code on the back doesn't work!
The windshield is a bit of a trip-I'm not used to having a windshield that is actually smaller then the side windows and the tiny windshield wipers it has-its like looking out a bunker LOL.
The two biggest complaints I have so far is the rear view with the rear view mirror-if you have the roof panels attached to the backseats you lose about 90% of your view out the back window-thank god for the backup camera.
The stereo is just tragic in it. I've had the Sony system in my SHO and I have it in my 2010 Fusion Hybrid I bought off my Brother in Law to hold me over-both systems are far better. Even my Wife's Escape sounds better, which just has the basic sound system in it. I'm not that picky but yeah that will be my major focus for what I do with my Bronco next.
So I've already started modding my Bronco-nothing major yet-I started putting in the stuff I got from stickerfab (I'll post photos when I get that all done) and added GearAmerica Aluminum Alloy Ultra Shackles yesterday. I have an Xpel Clear bra I need to install on it also, but I'm waiting for the pollen to go away to detail and install that.
I'm planning on replacing all the speakers and adding the B&O sub with a new speaker/amp as my next big project.
Longer term I'm looking at replacing the interior with custom Katzen leather covers and maybe new wheels with 33" tires.
I was looking at doing fender deletes, but I really like the mud flap/fenders plus the roof rack that gives it a Baja/Safari look.
I'll also add Yamaka lifts for kayaks also. since I kayak too.
This is where I stand now with it
So as a final word-I hope the shitshow I went though (which I accept my part of) has helped people and brought to attention to Ford what was happening (and them trying to improve/fix it with the Lightning and other products going forward) so this isn't repeated again.
I've gained a bit of notoriety after this too-my sister was buying out her Explorer lease and she got talking about what happened to me and the sales guy (who is at another dealership locally) asked if I was the guy in the Jalopnik article LOL
Oh yeah-try to cut Mike some slack-Ford and him are trying to do there best, but also keep in mind I do come from a Ford family myself...
