Thank you guys so much for all of your input! I love seeing differing opinions from each side and helping me think about both of them! It has been very helpful!

I thought they all had 4A
I almost got burned on my order because I thought so initially. Then I noticed that I had the rear locker but no adv 4x4... they had to do the order over 3 times to get it right.

As others have said, set it and forget it. It's a pretty sweet setup.

It's the only thing I couldn't get on my BB that I woulda if I coulda. I don't mind shifting 2H to 4H as needed but the 4A can be nice on highway drives in mixed conditions. Also nice on high speed curvy graveled roads where you may get a surprise.

Isn’t it pretty cheap to add? I’d say why not.

2021 pricing was:
rear locker $795
advanced 4x4 $795

Advanced 4x4 is only available with the rear locker.

I’ve owned 2 broncos and an F150 Raptor. Always in 4a. Then there are the two TRXs, they only come with 4a. There is no 2wd option. I’ve never had any issues with 4a, or tires, or tire replacement In Well over 100k miles.

It was the last thing I added before my build got pulled.
I added for the wife as I figured it was less confusing for her.

Where I am it's slick from Oct to April. Lots of ice, so it's 4A that time and days like today after a heavy frost and everything is iced over I'll run 4H and turn it back to 4A when pulling into a drive through or parking lot.

The only two vehicles I have with a traditional 2 speed transfer case is my 97 F150 (floor shift) that I plow snow with and my Excursion. Everything else either has auto 4x4 or AWD and I love it for half the year.

Bronco must haves for me were 4A, heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control. I have zero regrets after just over a year with my Bronco.

Its not just for slippery roads. When you shift into sport mode, it goes to 4A.
Yep, and once it does, I immediately shift it back into 2H.
I'd rather save the clutch packs in the xfer case for when I absolutely truly need it.

If you think you might want to get the Ford Performance M210 front locker diff upgrade in the near future get the advanced transfer case. Right now, that’s the only easy way to make that setup work.

One thing to remember is that the 4A is 4 wheel drive auto. It switches the front axle in and out as traction dictates. It’s not the same as all wheel drive. With good traction, your 4A Bronco will operate in 2WD. With poor traction, in 4WD. In variable traction, it will switch between 2WD and 4WD as needed.

Hey guys just wanting some input. I have an order for a 4dr black diamond 2.7 non sas. At the moment I do not have the option for the 4A, only 2wd, 4L and 4H.
Does anyone have any advice on whether I should have my dealer add 4A to my order?
I skipped 4A on my OBX. Your money is better spent elsewhere IMO.

Live in the Philly area and took a ‘98 Ranger to 250k miles with just 2H, 4H, 4L. Went through snow, sleet, ice, rain etc just fine with the right tires. 4A is a nice feature if you have the money for it, but it’s not a magic drive mode and it doesn’t make your bronco AWD.

Yup not only does the advanced transfer case give you 4a. It also has a lower gear ratio in low range.

I think the key is you need to know your use cases. Being in Minnesota I would always say the Advanced Transfer case is preferred. It will help during the winter, and it helps with resale.
The problem with the Advanced Transfer Case is that people who come from AWD vehicles will treat 4A like AWD. And that isn't how it should be used. 4A is a full-time system, but due to its design, it shouldn't be used on dry well packed surfaces. When using 4A it is also important that all 4 wheels have the same air pressure levels. The advanced transfer case uses clutch plates that will wear faster if there are different speeds between the front and rear wheels.

The crossed-out info was essentially wrong.

Here is a teardown of a 2021 First Edition that was left in 4A all the time and once had to be towed. Since it was always in 4A and the tow truck driver didn't know better, when it was towed with 2 wheels off the ground, the transfer case was engaged which resulted in the clutch pack being burned up completely. Tow Mode in the bronco puts the transfer case in neutral as well as other things.

We are in the Bay Area. 4A really helps with the rains. And, if you ever go to the mountains, it's an unsung hero. I'm singing for it here....
