About 6 weeks ago an acquaintance let me drive his 2023 Sasquatched Badlands, just on the road. Fond memories of a jeep I drove for 3 months in high school (before I totaled it) came flooding back. So I hatched a plan to make a purchase sooner rather than later, found this forum, and been obsessively reading/viewing and absorbing everything Bronco, or at least so my wife informs me ;)

However, I have been discouraged by these current prices and had been assuming I would have to fly to Phoenix, or at least Alburquerque to get anything at a price I could swallow, and had even started looking at the currently heavily discounted Wranglers. Then last night I noticed my local Ford dealer has a Sasquatched Big Bend with a 2.3 and a manual no less! The price, though still too high is at least something I can consider. I want to get into some moderate wheeling before I get too old and current Badland prices are just too rich (for me). I figure I can get some proper after market skids for $1k or so, and perhaps those Boss "Walker Link" sway bar shocks will satisfy my thirst for a sway disconnect solution. The color (carbonized gray metallic) is not my favorite but my wife seems to like it and I would rather have a soft top but those are so few and far between...did I mention it's a 2.3 with a manual?!

In any case the dealer knows he probably has his fish because he let me drive it home for the next 2 days:

Keep looking for the one you want. Buyers are in the driverā€™s seat now-donā€™t settle on color, options, or price. Youā€™ll be happy that you shopped.

Hey Crenca,
Do not buy this Bronco!
I say this as it is not the colour you want, and it does not have all of the bells and whistles that you want.
Take your time and buy the Bronco that YOU want. There are enough out there that you will be able to find YOUR Bronco.
Once you find YOUR Bronco, then you can begin negotiating. The dealer knows that giving you the Bronco to drive for two days will generally convince you to fall in love and buy it. Resist and get the one that YOU want!

New Broncos can be had for invoice now days. That should be a pretty good gauge to use.

Well I just picked up my Sasquatch BigBend Mid Package last week and paid sticker of $ 58810 so I would say yes grab it for that price IF thatā€™s the one you want.

My .02 for that kind of money Iā€™d buy a non sas Badlands so u get your factory sway disconnect, skid plates, and metal bumpers that u will be missing otherwise. You can buy Sasquatch takeoff wheels/tires for cheap on Facebook Market anytime. The 33s are prob better for daily driving anyways.

The other route would be to spend closer to $40k on a non sas BB or BD if you donā€™t really need all the off-road extras. Again you can add the 35s easily for pretty cheap if u just want ā€œthe lookā€ - get the manual though so the gearing is appropriate for bigger tires if you plan to add them.

Thanks for all the input, it honestly helped keep things in perspective!

I have decided I will be closing the deal this morning baring any last minute $surprises$ from the dealer. I will be ordering the factory skids (don't believe I need an aftermarket trans skid given I have a manual which comes in a cast iron housing tucked up - someone correct me if I'm wrong please) and possibly the Ford ProCal/Performance tune as long as they will do it for an hour's labor...and have a tech who can do it...probably I will end up doing it myself

I will also need some aftermarket rock rails given it comes with the "removable hoop step" which is not a real rocker I have learned. It does have the module bumper, Aux switches, and of course Sasquatch already.

I will let everyone know how it goes.

Before you order aftermarket rails, see how much you like the hoop step, it really helps make it easier getting in and out. You can always remove the steps for the trail for extra clearance but according to Ford, it's not a real rock rail (although it is really similar and probably failed some test to not qualify). I would try to get them down to $50K, tell them your wife set the limit!

Everything went well at the dealership. Heck, even the finance guy (I financed about half of it, Ford gave me 3.9%) did not spend more than 30 seconds trying to upsell me on this or that. Bronco is in my driveway now šŸ¤˜.

However.......as I was pulling into my driveway, I noticed the right rear tire showed 33psi, down from earlier in the day and all the rest of the tires at Obama/dealership 37psi - I quickly saw:

Ford Bronco Should I buy this Bronco? screwed tire - Copy

So I will be airing it back up tomorrow morn and heading to Discount for a patch/evaluation.

What do you guys think, should I rely on a patch (on the road and trail for some unforeseeable future) or should I suck it up and get a new tire while the other three are new as well?

Perhaps I should think of a way to try blame the dealer šŸ˜†

I'd just get an inside patch for it. They will remove tire to do it. Little more expensive but worth it

That's some bad luck. If the mileage is low enough, get that tire plugged and use it as the spare. I had a 1991 454 SS pickup that had a key stuck in between the treads like that. I had the local station plug it and never had a problem. I could see that being a concern on the trail in the middle of nowhere so I could see getting it repaired properly or replaced if you're going to hit trails hard.

Ask anyone here if you should buy a Bronco, and 98% of the time, the answer will be yes.šŸ˜‰ Regardless of the details of the deal. It's just money. But a Bronco, it's not just another vehicle.

2 years later, I still smile every time I get in. šŸ˜
True dat!!
