If you add the hitch after-market, you will need the wiring harness, the vehicle plugs, the receiver hitch, and the programing. When you hook up a trailer, it integrates with the vehicles computer for various functions. The programing will need to be done by the dealer and will cost money. Then, can the dealer do it correctly and will it be under warranty? I want mine right and do not want to hassle with trying to do it myself. I am willing to wait and pay the money to have it done at the factory.

Really comes down to, what do you want it for:
1 - Tow a 7-pin trailer with brake controller
2 - Tow a 4-pin trailer
3 - Mount a bike rack or one of those receiver hitch cargo holders.

3 - easy just need to mount (4 bolts) ; no lights, no wires.
2 - have to wire in the 4-pin harness - IMHO not a big deal.
1 - get the factory tow package because it includes wiring for the 7-pin AND more importantly wiring to the footwell to install a brake controller.

I didn't even get my reservation in until this march, I'm so far in the back of the line that removing the tow would be like spitting in the ocean
Hell I'm a November reservation and I feel like I'm in the same boat as you. Everyone complaining about build dates and possibilities and I'm just over here sipping tea watching the world burn. Hell we might be getting MY23's :ROFLMAO:

I think #2 is a bit bigger because you can't just tap into some brake switch. But I think there is some controller box you can put in as middleware to help out. There was a thread about what had to be done to a Ranger to add the wiring.

As things get more complex..sometimes you just have to suck it up.

The dealer confirmed it could help your order get scheduled earlier........

I think you're putting too much stock in that extremely general comment..................obviously it may be true, but it is just so vague...........CONFIRMED......that it................COULD HELP..........EARLIER

would 1 day earlier make it worth it to you? a week? A month? 2 months, etc. You'll never know most likely with any degree of certainty but only you know what you even need the package for and how important it is to have it lined up on delivery.

When Tow Pkg. became sin, I read 65% orders wanted tow pkg. Ford has enough for 45%. That is a 13,000 hitch shortage for MY2021.

A buddy of mine is a tech at a Mercedes dealership and one of his rants is about installing tow packages after delivery. I don't know the exact cost of the option from the factory but it's ~$750 iirc and having it installed post delivery is roughly double the price. If you want a hitch I'd recommend leaving it on your order.

Imagine how the orders would have changed if Ford simply included Fog Light wiring, Hard Top Wiring, and Tow light wiring on all Broncos standard.

Would have opened so many possibilities after the fact that we wouldn't be locked into being forced to include them on our orders.

I don’t understand why a brake controller would be necessary for the anemic tow capacity of the Bronco? Trailers under 3000# aren’t generally required to have brakes, the tow capacity is 3500#. My boat trailer is registered at 2993# and I have a bike rack I want to use, so the tow package appeals to me. If someone were buying a Bronco for constant towing of something requiring brakes they probably ordered the wrong vehicle.
