Hi all,

I have a stock 2-door Wildtrak and while I bought this trim because it doesn't require a lot of cosmetic changes to look good and do love the stock look, I'm thinking of upgrading the wheels when the tires need changing. The bottom line is if I do upgrade the wheels/tires I think I'd like them a bit bigger .. say 18". I mostly bought the Bronco on looks and top off fun vs hardcore off-roading so I see no need to stay at 17". I'm not dogmatic about it. Please share your pics and experiences with different size wheels and tires. Mostly looking for 18", but wouldn't mind seeing anything you have. And yes I'm prepared to be beaten down for this. My loin is girded :).

Apologies if there are other threads on this (18’s specifically). I've searched and cannot find any.
Ford Performance makes these 18x8 Bronco Wheels, a half inch wider than the OBX 18x7.5 wheels, and the same width as the Badlands non-SAS 17x8 wheels. These all have +55 offset for non-SAS vehicles. All Sasquatch vehicles all have +30 offset, and if you Have a Wildtrack, you need that so the wheel pokes out an extra inch. The reason most off roading vehicles have 17" wheels is because they more sidewall height than 18" wheels. This is important if you air down alot, the higher section height gives more room for flex when driving aired down. We OBX owners have found that most 18" tire upsizes are in the "E" rated sizes, like the popular 275/70R18, which will be more durable but a harsher ride. Pickups that are set up for towing use these and similar 18" "E" tires, which take the extra weight load of the trailer and have more plies. The Goodyear Territory OEM Sasquatch tire is the lighter "C" rating in a 17x8.5, +30 offset size, so that it's bigger but gives a smoother, more comfortable ride with a C rating. It also has less plies, so it is "weaker" for some applications. I personally have two sets of tire-wheel combinations, depending on the use. If you're getting a second set, why not keep the first?

Not that anyone asked me, but I think the bigger rims (18 is still okay) start to look a little too straight outta Compton. I guess if I was going for the urban look, it would make sense. A friend of mine was just talked into 19" (or maybe 20"?) rims by a sales guy on his stock Jeep Sahara with some slightly bigger tires, and I don't have the heart to tell him that it now looks like the Jersey Shore edition. It's the big sidewall that gives it the offroad look whereas big rims do the opposite.

man.......I remember those days when I couldn't wait to get a set of 17's on my Tricked out Honda Civic - back in the 90's.......Haha!!! It's also crazy how Volk Racing wheels are also still around and very popular. I wonder of any Bronco owner has Volks on their ride!

I'm looking at finally upgrading my stock BL 33" to 35", but if I want to stay with 285s most of the options require 18" wheels. My current front runner is the Warn Jackhammer.

I run 18s with 35s and do some light off-roading. It was stock ride height until a couple months ago. I added a 3-1/2” Icon lift.

What's the tire size? I'm looking at 18s with 285 75R18

Just curious, why are you specifying 285? A 315-17 will get you to 35". Are you wanting to change the wheels anyways?

Changing wheels was on my radar, but more of a nice to have, being dictated by tires. 285 75R18 actually gets me a higher ride than the 315s do (only like .5", I know), lower rolling resistance, better on road manners, and higher downward force per square inch. If I was up north with deep snow, or out west with lots of dunes the 315s would make more sense. Since our snow is rarely more than 6" at a time, and our trails are tight woods, rocks and dirt, pizza cutters make more sense to me.

Unless you hate the factory beadlock capable wheels it seems a waste just to go from 17’s to 18’s if you were looking to go to 20’s than that would be a descent visual difference

Plus, going from the +55 offset on my stock wheels to a 0 will still give me 2.2" poke from the non-sas fender. (I'm the type that diagrams everything out so I can visualize the impact of all the combos I'm considering.)

Ok. But honestly I think you're overthinking the small differences. If you want to tires to stick out more, which I like that look much better, then ok, I get it.

I bought mine used that already had aftermarket rims and 315-17s. Here's a look to see how far the tires stick out.
