The guy who had the dealership install his tune is calling someone else an idiot - totally fits. If you understood the workings of your vehicle's engine you would understand that what I said is quite true. Shame that you needed to call me an idiot to assert your point. Please don't listen to this idiot. The Ford Performance Tune literature states "Any failures associated with the non-use of premium fuel will be ineligible for warranty repair"
There's a huge difference between a manufacturer finding reasons to void your warranty and doing something that will actually cause harm to an engine. They'd probably try denying your warranty claim if they found out you got car wax on your gas door. Please don't listen to this idiot. Is this not the same tune we're all speaking to?* Premium fuel required* "
Is Premium "Required"for the tune to actually do anything, or "Required" to not blow up your engine? I think 8ronco and Tex are correct.
Does that require 91 or 93 octane? Thats my primary reluctance, a lifetime of 50+ cents/gallon gasoline expense!Ford Performance Tune. It's is like taking a GT Mustang and making it a GT500 Shelby. Upset I wasted 9k miles of avg 2.7l Bronco driving before installing in 15 minutes.
Agreed. If I’m gonna pay that much for gas, I wanna use it on a car with 600+ horsepower so that I can actually enjoy it.Does that require 91 or 93 octane? Thats my primary reluctance, a lifetime of 50+ cents/gallon gasoline expense!
I believe 91 as a minimum with the tune.Does that require 91 or 93 octane? Thats my primary reluctance, a lifetime of 50+ cents/gallon gasoline expense!
Yes, same tune, yes premium fuel is required for the tune to operate. To clarify, the tune does not take away from the inherent features and functionality of the engine system, specifically the engine's computer is able to sense the octane / grade of fuel, and runs the program/ tune that is most appropriate for optimal engine output and safety.
You are correct, Uncle Bob - it requires premium to run the performance map that is added to the engine's list of maps, which it selects depending on grade of fuel sensed. If it senses low grade fuel it will use the low grade map, higher grade, performance map.Is Premium "Required"for the tune to actually do anything, or "Required" to not blow up your engine? 100% - just another sneaky scapegoat reason to blame the customer for something that isn't even related to anything the customer did...they like to have as many outs as possible, and sometimes get away with it when the customer doesn't have the technical expertise to call them out on it. It is the basis of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act - but it doesn't mean they won't still try whenever they can to throw up these decoys. There's a huge difference between a manufacturer finding reasons to void your warranty and doing something that will actually cause harm to an engine. Warranty is also not void if an ase certified mechanic does the job too100% - just another sneaky scapegoat reason to blame the customer for something that isn't even related to anything the customer did...they like to have as many outs as possible, and sometimes get away with it when the customer doesn't have the technical expertise to call them out on it. According to their documentation, the performance warranty is also voided if their dealships don't install the tune but meanwhile there have been more reported issues with Ford techs screwing up the tune install than able-minded consumers pressing the buttons on the computer and tuner. Threatening to void the warranty for self install is both a attempt at escaping liability for a serperate issue and also an opportunity to bring revenue to the dealerships.
I would like to say that I don't look down upon anyone who had the dealership install their tune, whether they don't feel comfortable technically or they are concerned about the warranty threats - everyone has the right to do whatever the feel is best - I even have compassion for the person who called me an idiot because he doesn't know better and maybe this is a good learning experience.
We are all from different walks of life, but we can always learn from each other by asking questions and being patient with our fellow enthusiasts - we do have something great in common which is thay we all have great taste in vehicles![]()
