Good thing is, there’s no longer a national backorder on tie rods. Had over 200 last time the dealer checked (inner and outer). Should be able to find inners and outers for ~$70-100ea as someone previously stated. Just depends on parts dept markup.

Aren’t they snapping at the point they join messing up both?
Here’s where it snapped:
Yeah that splint was wort it’s weight in gold. I was surprised it worked so well with the rocks Wes still had to climb to get out of there. @Copperhorse73 thanks again for leading the group too. That run was a madhouse yesterday with all the traffic!

Thanks for the ride to the Auto Parts store man. I wasn’t sure who you were on here.

You also saved my ass!

No problem, I’m glad it all worked out so well.

Hey guys…. We had a great group of Broncos this morning out at Uwharrie in central North Carolina….

I was the only guy rolling on 33s in a stock Black Diamond.

Got myself stuck on a rock, and one of the guys used a kinetic rope to pull me off…but when my left front tire caught traction…the tie rod snapped like a chicken bone.

Thanks to @Mountains2Metal for having the @BroncoBuster tie rod braces to get me off the trail…

And then thanks for @Tricky Dick and @Copperhorse73 for installing a 2004 Ranger tie rod to get me home.

Great lesson on never wheeling alone.
Glad you made it out OK and that the Broncbuster braces served their purpose. We kind of put the cart before the horse with those but it is great to know that they can help get someone off the trail. You handled it pretty well for all potential carnage that was taking place. Here are a couple more pictures from the event.

Thanks for getting some pics. I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off, didn’t even pause to snap any pics/video myself

$22 for a ranger tie rod, 70-100 for bronco, and $400 for brace. I think I’ll just get 10 ranger rods :p
I don’t plan on a ton of more advanced crawling.. so hopefully a few spares will be plenty.
That's essentially my position at this point. It's still a relatively uncommon occurrence and I've gotten pretty quick at changing them.

Once the bigger Hoss 3.0 tie rods become available it will be worth looking into as an upgrade.

My biggest fear in taking my Bronco out wheeling (also lifted). I'm still choosing the Gladiator until I do the Bronco Off-Roadeo in two weeks to learn the lines of an IFS set up. This did get me to order a couple spares. Need to get more Broncos out to Hidden Falls here in Texas!

Greg ;)

@Tarheel_Wes up until then, how did the old BD handle it all? Just curious since we only really get feedback on sas models typically.
Also, this picture gives me anxiety. Looks like a bunch of knives just sticking out of the ground. Lol.

It actually did fine, and I only got stuck bc I took a bad line.

rather than 35s, what would have made the bigger difference would have been a FRONT locker.

im now pretty committed to getting an ARB compressor and adding front air lockers.

Wes did great. The biggest issue was lack of front locker on this particular trail. We had a stock badlands that had no issues with the same original line, other than some scraping.

Badlands 7MT w/ 33s just used the gas tank skid and gently tagged one of the LCA mounts. Nothing a little rustoleum won't fix.

Also what a handsome gentleman setting up that kinetic rope...

Ha is that you man?

Didn’t know your tag on here.

Thanks again for the help!

wasn’t there a guy filming when y’all pulled?

I wanted to see if we could see the rod when it snapped…?
