I would go Synthetic. I bought a winch for my CJ5 a few years back and they guy asked how often I would use it. I admitted I probably would not that often and wanted it more for emergencies. He indicated that if you buy a steel cable and just leave it in the spool exposed, it can start to show rust after a year or so. Synthetic has other advantages too for those that use them all the time but was surprised it was better for one that isn't used as much too (which lets be honest, is most of them). It's just a little pricey but worth it not to potentially show rust....What are peoples thoughts on synthetic vs steel winch cables?
