Ford surely has a certain number of 2.7's to start with. But, I'm guessing they are seeing a potential shortage when Bronco orders start rolling in. If you're in early enough you could be one of the lucky ones to get a 2.7L before they run low. Good luck.

It might be that there is a different valve body or special hard line that they only use in the Bronco, it might be that they are all delayed until a Bronco specific part or adapter is available from a supplier who cannot get raw materials or whatever. No way to know for sure unless Ford tells us. Seriously, it could be that they are missing an emissions sticker, could be something stupid and not a lack of actual transmissions.

The problem is that with "Just-in-Time" manufacturing, they forecast what they think they will need on parts that have a multiple month lead time. If the forecast is wrong, which seems like it now, there are multiple months to recover back to what is actually needed. The other 2.7s in the pipeline are alreay allocated to other vehicles. They could steal some from F-150, but then that would hurt the numbers on their #1 sales vehicle. Not gonna happen.

I deal with this in Aerospace all the time. Some parts are 30+ weeks "billet-to-box". If customer "A" now says they want to update a contract to take delivery early, it usually can't happen. Same thing happens when a vendor has issues and falls short of a quantity on delivery. Usually the process starts over or we have to dip into the next run of parts that re partially done. Delays that are out of our hands.

All true. A couple of other things.

Electronic lead times are now pushing a full year or more on some components. I know for sure that Ford‘s CMs work to mitigate this but sometimes stuff happens.

Ford also doesn’t know for sure if their original forecast is wrong although their new forecast says it is. The first rule of forecasting is that it’s always wrong and when in doubt see rule # 1. Ford won’t know for sure until after March 19.

All that said there’s a really easy solution. Don’t over think it now because you won’t get a solid answer for a few months. If you want it order it. If it’s going to cause a delay, and it’s the only option that’s going to delay your build, you’ll be given the opportunity to change it to the 2.3 sometime around May. This per the information been provided on this forum over the past week.
