I'm big into Off-Roading, Both in the sense of NF Fire Roads, and Rock Crawling. I'm also very much into modifying vehicles to do both of those things better. I bought the Bronco primarily to learn a new platform, It's the closest thing to a Wrangler (Removable top and Manual Transmission are musts for me) that's been available in the US since 1980, when the last IH Scout II rolled off the line, and my Scout's are to dated to be worth the effort required to keep them road worthy anymore.
'IT' is a total package, There isn't really just one thing that makes it so appealing to me.
As to @Billnchristy, the Bronco can't be compared to a BMW for 'how' it gives you joy. A 10hp go-kart can't compete with the Bronco or The BMW in anyway... But it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive one ... Enjoy both your wife's Bronco and Your BMW for what they are... Fun to drive in totally different ways!
