Yeah, that's what it used to be. But not any more unfortunately.

I wish we could get back there but with all of the big money (on all sides) controlling the media and spewing so much divisive propaganda at us (of all types), I doubt we will. At least not for a long time.
It’s up to us (the individual) to do our part. If we make it uncool to be a d#@k, there will be less d#@ks.

The internet and its trolls are a different monster and much harder to combat. The lack of face to face communication is the real problem IMO.

That's just it. We are being goaded into being d!(ks to each other by the relentless propaganda that permeates everything these days. It's hard to fight that.

Hmmm - that's probably what General Antonio López de Santa Anna said too... ;)
Yep and thankfully Texans finally liberated the Mexicans from a horrible dictator.

Just to clarify my position, while the thread is entertaining, it wasn't meant to cause any riffs, which is why it was posted in the Texas section. Having traveled all over the US, I have realized a lot of people dont realize that going outside of texas means a long trip and as such, we don't get to other states very often and people don't drive here very much. This is why to us/me, it is odd to see so many out of state plates. It is sheer curiosity. When I work in other states and someone says they're going to make a quick run to (whatever the bordering state is), it's super odd to me that you can state hop during a business day.

For a state that preaches freedom so much, you would think they’d be more understanding that people are exercising their...wait for it...freedom to move there ;)
Just don’t ____ it up when you get there!

I actually thought of renting a place in Galveston for the winter Since I work from home full time and can go anywhere. I live in NY And I live alone and it’s tough being cooped up in the house for the winter. so Maybe other people had the same idea. I’m sure you have lax COVID rules to blame for an influx of people too.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but if it's a fast looking car it could be in town for TX2K race in Baytown. That's also one of the reasons cops are out a lot more.

I'll say of my four cars, only two are Texas plated. The other two are California plated. The XJ is expired California and I'm just hoping to get by with it (rarely drive it) till the bronco comes in. The other car is actively registered in CA because I don't want to lose my license plate (STFU NUB).

I moved from Minnesota to Texas purely to get away from the -40F temps in the winter, and a grand total of 3 months of nice weather. My SVT still has MN plates on it, and it will for a bit longer.

I do not always agree with the politics of Texas, but let there be no mistake it is from my perspective, an extraordinarily independent, spirited state-the likes of which we may never see again. Whether it is the Hill Country or Panhandle, the quirky nature of Austin or the hard driving wildcats of the oil fields, Texans are a proud lot to be sure that give no quarter nor apologize-nor should apologize- for anything. There is only one locale and history that is capable of producing the legendary Texas Rangers and no I am not talking about baseball players. George HW Bush, Lyndon Johnson, Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, George W Bush, and the names and storied history goes on and on. So I tip my stetson and raise a glass to the extraordinary men and women of the most storied piece of real estate in the greatest country in the world, the hearty, proud men and women of the Republic of Texas! So if my Bronco's California license plate is detected traversing the contours of Texas, please understand I come with respect to visit and honor a hallmark of our shared national experience.

So, just out of pure interest, why Texas? I don't get out much, so this thread really is interesting to me.
