I thought so too at first. But he’s talking about putting it on the black bars of the soft top itself not the painted roll bar.
Even if it’s felt rubbing that spot, it’s still rubbing on the paint. The idea is to stop the contact not just lessen the amount of wear. PPF on the actual contact point of the paint would be the best option.

The felt is a good idea for the top. It would keep the PPF from leaving marks on the top over time. A combo of both would keep both wear points from making contact.

I'd just put a bit of helicopter tape on the spot where it contacts. Cheap and easy. Looks better than felt a lnd cheaper (and tougher) than PPFing the whole bar.

Bummer you need to do it but not a huge issue.
Helicopter Tape, had to google that, great idea, much better than felt.

aka, Clear Paint Protector Vinyl Wrap, 2 inch may be a good place to start.

Can you get a pic further back and same on other side, please? One of mine is supposed to be delivered next week and want to see if this is an adjustment or tollerance issue.

Get it to your dealer so they can start a warranty paint claim ASAP. The more issues we report early, the faster engineering can address them.

The dealer demo that I drove last week had the soft top down, and the scratches (deep gouges) were very noticeable on that one too.

This seems like an easy enough fix. Any recommendations on a brand that has good adhesion / wearability?
this would work. I spent about a decade between dealers, engineering centers, and manufacturing plants with Mercedes Benz. Felt tape is used everywhere. It’s useful, but as someone mentioned above, doesn’t look great. Mostly used for squeaks/rattles on interior trim, but also under hood.

I think the protective whatever needs to be on the top not the roll bar.
Agreed! Get some self healing PPF and wrap the bar, voila. Easy. Won’t even see it.

I've had the soft top down all the way a couple of times now. Mainly took the rear and side windows off and left them off for two days. Opened and closed the top at night and morning, also when not driving to keep the seats cool ( the sun heats up the MGV very quickly, I noticed this rub on the roll bar. Will be talking with the dealer about it this in the near future. The soft top frame has a little lateral play. when closing it up, the frame can rub if it isn't lifted perfectly even left to right.

Get the dealer to take care of that quick before oxidation or rust starts. This vehicle is having so many issues killing the hype wtf

Looks like it maybe worth getting the sport bars wrapped in PFF to avoid this.
I'm already planning on vinyl wrapping mine. It was going to be for cosmetic reasons, but now it's a real reason I guess
