Update got the hard top Jeep #s today
Is that a JL or JK? and I’d be really interested to see the soft top Jeep too. My Jeep’s have always been tolerable with a soft top right up until the mud tires got good and broken in.

So you are saying a 21 soft top Bronco makes less noise than a 21 hard top Wrangler as measured with the same device on the same road? Thats pretty impressive if so.

Jeep was better at 50mph and higher at 70mph. The bronco is just more arrow dynamic that would be my guess in why at that higher speed you will see the difference. The Bronco had a little wind noise coming from the back it sounded like the drivers side like above the back door window area my buddy that went with me pointed it out and the review the guy posted on the same bronco also talked about it. But its like I told my buddy if your riding in a soft top and can pin point noise that means it quiet over all. People talk about road noise but for the most part the wind noise drowns out the road noise.

Updated with soft top Jeep #s this Jeep was the new E model Sahara Tires are 275/55R20. The reason why I am pointing that out is they told me it was the quietest soft top jeep they had but it was also the only new soft top Jeep in the OKC area. All info is updated on first post but thought I would just give the soft top also here.

4 door soft top Jeep 32in tire E model
50mph 64-65db
70mph 69-70db

4 door soft top Bronco 35in tire Sasquatch
50mph 64-65db
70mph 71-71.5db

This is my anecdotal readings from my “non-cars”.

This was over the same 2 mile stretch of road with the same NIOSH iPhone app at the same time of day at 70 MPH with no accessories on each taken 5 times and then averaged.

2015 Ford Expedition EL - 65.4 dB

2005 Ford F-150 - 68.9 dB

2005 Dodge Ram 2500 (Power Wagon) - 77.7 dB

2007 Jeep JK (soft top) - 80.3 dB

If you want to check your ride to compare its a free app (NIOSH sound level meter)

Disclamer Different roads and if you have the AC on or off things like this will make a difference this is a ballpark not a perfect # (Lux package and carpet I would think would be even less) I did AC off and ran test between the front 2 seats.

Hope to add Jeep numbers next week plan to go by a dealer and get some on both soft top and hard.

Bronco

70mph: ?db

2021 4 door Jeep (Hard Top) (No sound deadening) Islander model Tire size 31.5in

70mph: 75-76db

2021 4 door (Soft top) Jeep 32in tire E model

2018 Sequoia (Wife ride)

70mph: 67-68db

First off I had a guy going to give me some numbers but they were way off. (I tested my phone to make sure it was right on DBs) You are welcome to post your numbers but keep in mind if you don't test your phone for accuracy it maybe way off. (Normal Chatting is around 60db) just an easy way to see if its even close.
What app did you use on your phone for testing?

Any chance you can do a Rubicon? You are comparing the E Tire model(street tires) to Sasquatch(mud tires). Thats just not apples to apples. A better comparison would be of the E Sahara would be to the Big Bend I suspect.

Man that was the only new jeep I could find with a hard top in all of OKC no one has any.

Kinda like my women I take what I can get or at least when I was young. LOL

As we attempt to understand sound as recorded in decibels, do you feel this chart is an accurate representation of your experience?

Ford Bronco Sound meter measured: 2021 Bronco interior noise decibels @ 50mph and 70mph (soft and hard top) IMG_7694
I can say with certainty that the wind noise at 70 in my 4dr hard top badlands with roof rack is louder than any "window air conditioner" I've ever heard

I must be onto something with my minor weatherstripping mods. Using NIOSH on a hard top:

30 mph: 50.8 dB
50 mph: 58.5 dB
60 mph: 60.5 dB
