I was planning making Palo Duro my first stop on this trip.... but as I said, lots of plans changed. I really want to check out the Merus Adventure Park at Palo Duro and probably make a long weekend out of it. Great Shots!Solid trip! Me and my buddy have done Palo Duro -> Silverton, CO twice this year, it's so beautiful out there
We crossed between CO and NM a bit further west than you did, so no, I didn't get any chile rellenos there lol. The whole addition of UT was actually last minute. We had an extra day and the decision was to either spend 2 more days in Silverton or go and spend 1 day in Moab. We picked the Arches NP since my wife really wanted to see it. But after researching more of the area upon arrival, I new that I was going to have to plan a special trip just for that state. Maybe do some of the backcountry discovery route. That whole trip looks awesome. We took a similar path but from UT down to Central NM. (If you hit Chama NM to get a chile relleno, well, now you're just making it weird. Haha). Something for next time though is to at least stay a night out of town in Moab. There’s sooo much BLM access just a stones-throw from town in every direction all with any type of viewshed you’d want. And with a RTT, you don’t have to go far to feel like you’re the only ones on earth. Once you catch those views with that starry sky away from the lights of town, your benchmark for tranquility just found a new level.
Well you were blessed to have had the opportunity to grow up in such a beautiful area. I actually grew up in north CO. Brighton-Greeley direction. Now I find myself struggling for the views from south TX. I wish I could take that UT trip soon, but I have to get life back on track for a bit before I plan my next one. I hope you have a great time up there!Great write up! Sounds like you had a fantastic adventure! I grew up near Cortez CO so it was cool to see my old stomping grounds. I’ve been in central Texas for 17 years so I know that route pretty well. Actually heading to Moab for a week at the end of October.
Yes... it is very difficult lol. Can't stop thinking about the next one.Great pictures and narrative!! I can’t imagine leaving such lovely country and returning to Texas! Thanks for sharing!!!!!!
You’re right, I was very blessed to grow up in that part of the country. Oh yeah, make sure you get a Navajo taco when you get to the 4 Corners area one of these days!Well you were blessed to have had the opportunity to grow up in such a beautiful area. I will be sure to check that out when I pass through there again. Which I'm sure I will someday. You’re right, I was very blessed to grow up in that part of the country. Oh yeah, make sure you get a Navajo taco when you get to the 4 Corners area one of these days!
Thanks! BTW, I'm really enjoying yall's roof rack!Great trip and great write up!
It was still pretty green with only some small patches of the golden colors when I was there. Mid October should give you a much better set of those fall colors.Great pics and story. We are headed back to Ouray for a couple of weeks this Saturday. Hoping some of the fall colors are left on the aspen trees.
Hey man! It was good meeting you too! I'm glad, I hope you do get out to see some of this kind of stuff.Looks like an awesome trip! It was great meeting you at the Off-Roadeo in Austin last weekend. This post has definitely inspired me to make a similar trip in the near future.
