So I see a lot of discussions about getting rid of the spare tire. Now I'm not talking about The fact that someone has upsized their tires to the point it no longer fits in the correct spot and they throw it up on the roof or something.

I'm talking about people that literally remove their spare tire from their vehicle... I don't get it?

I can't imagine being out on a trail and crossing your fingers that whatever tired damage you receive can be fixed with a bunch of tire plugs.

Are the folks that completely remove their spare tire, simply just not going off-road? Or am I missing something?

Most here do it because they like the look and it’s different
, but reality is that it really hurts the look of the truck, and also makes it less capable as you point out. It’s a mod to be doing a mod.

Or you remove it from the tailgate in order to put it on a bumper mounted solution.

Some just don’t like the look and are willing to depend on services like AAA if they get a flat

I've never gotten a flat with an "offroad" tire used on the street, so I can see why some would roll the dice. Hitting a trail without a spare is just asking for trouble though.

The looks of it is entirely preference, some people just have bad taste. 😁

People are funny, the entire Jeep Cherokee (and other offroad SUV) world has spent the last 30 years getting spares mounted to the exterior of the vehicle, then those like Bronco and Wrangler, do the opposite. I personally think it looks ridiculous.

I took the spare tire off and converted to a spare tie rod holder.
Chances I'll need that spare more than a tire on the trail....
🤪 😇
