So I might be leaning towards swapping both rubber and rims on my OBX, but I'm not sure it's worth doing the spare as well.

Opinion on up'ing to some 20" rims, but leaving the spare as is, but put a cover over it?

IMO you should be fine with the stock spare assuming you are staying in the same relative tire diameter, say within an inch.

If you don't plan on utilizing your spare as part of your tire rotation you should be fine with this route.

1) Don't put on 20s. They are awful on a vehicle meant for off road.
2) Upgrade the spare, and rotate all 5 tires. You'll spend more up front but also go 20% longer before replacing tires...and you get a good looking tire out back that matches. It's the best look, way better than a tire cover.

Yeah, the more I look at 20's, the less I like them. Too much.

I should note my Bronco is not my daily driver, and in fact, it's been sleeping away in the garage since the end of September. I don't think I'll ever need to replace the tires due to being worn out.

I don't like the spare tire cover look, but when it would save ~$500, so I have to look at it

17s have more friendly tire availability. It was tough getting new rubber on the stock 18s. I wouldn't do 20s, as said above.

Match the spare looks better.
20's are dumb on an off-road vehicle.

Unless you are really flogging the miles, tire wear may not be a concern. On my vehicle, a 5-tire rotation would make sense because I am commuting 30 miles each way to work. On my wife's car, the tires sun rot the sidewalls before they wear out the tread. She's had her new F-150 for over a year and only barely put on 6000 miles.

Come on now, you buy an expensive toy to sit in the garage. You're going to buy new wheels just for looks. You expect us to think you are worried about $500?

So my mind has been down this road since I had a nice set of four nearly new 33s sitting in my garage that are discontinued so I can't get a 5th. I also have a set of four dual pattern wheels on my F150 project truck that would fit the Bronco. It's tempting, and I found that new Rangers come with a nice spare wheel that would do the job with a random 33 put on it. I think I'm going to do it just to use them up.

Match the spare and get 17'' rims. I had 20s on 33s on my wrangler and I love my 35s on 17s on the Bronco. Not sure what it is it just looks way better with more tire, esp if you have SAS

As long as the diameter is close, a tire cover will save significant money. 5 tire rotation isn’t my favorite, I’d rather replace the rubber every 3 years rather than running all of them to 4 years. Living in AZ most of my life, tires were dry rotted from heat and sun after as little as 3 years. Next time around I put the best of the old tires on the spare.

I figured you wanted to downsize to 17s rather than upsize to 20s 😬

In any case, match the spare for 5-tire rotations.
