This has to mess with how the shock is designed to work. The preload is now way off and it will compress a lot different than designed. The traditional spacer seems a better option to me especially if you still want that smooth ride.
A spacer will effectively lengthen the coilover. In the front that will increase the max angle of the tie rod and axle cv joint. Bigger angles are what breaks those parts. I don't know at what angle that will happen, but that is the risk with spacers.
Lengthening the axle and tie rod will decrease the angle for a given travel distance. That is why you see long arm kits for IFS and why the Raptor is wider.

Increasing the preload of the spring will move the shock piston resting position higher in the shock body. Feedback says this results in a little firmer ride with less body roll and break dive. You will also lose some travel from rest on the rebound side, but gain it on the compression side.

Bilstein 6100 shocks for the Bronco have multiple positions for the spring perch. There is definitely some leeway there without putting the shock out of it's operational zone. How much? IDK.

Additional preload should be marginal as it doesn't compress the spring. It just moves the resting place of the stroke. You end up with less droop and more compression stroke.
Less droop and a resting place closer to the other end of the spring would mean more pre load. It will change the ride.

You're both correct, its changing the resting position of the shock by moving it down in the column via preload. To obtain preload you have to accept some increased stiffness which slightly changes the ride.

IMO you're trading one negative for two positives. Most of us feel like the stock ride is soft, and adding more preload is adding to the ride quality while providing the height people are looking for.

Does anyone know if I can install a 1" leveling kit along with these perch collars? As it stands, with these perch collars installed the rear is 1" higher than the front and I want to level it out. Wonder if the stock UCA will work as well. Thanks!

I finally found time to install mine today. I’m very pleased with the results visually.

Have not had a chance to drive yet so can’t comment yet on any possible change in driving dynamics.

took me about 4 hours (not including the alignment) in a well equipped shop with a lift, working at a leisurely pace. But I’m a rusty old guy that hasn’t turned a wrench in 13 years so it could have been done considerably faster.

my alignment was WAY off afterwards.

I used the control arm technique instead of breaking loose the tie rods, ball joints and risking the stripped CV axle nut that some have experienced. I believe this was likely a significantly easier method.
Were you able to only remove the lower control arm bolts to get the strut out?

What are the 2 extra pieces?

Edit: They are for addedlift front or rear if you’re running a heavier bumper.

Dang, I think this is the solution to the problem. Everyone dogs on the factory Bilsteins, when in fact they are actually pretty great - if they were adjustable. I run the similar kit on the fronts in our FX4 Ranger and love the ride now. I’m not sure how I missed the availability of these back in April 2022 (edit: ah, that’s why - I installed in March 2022) when I mounted the takeoffs. I’m so tired of the boat like body roll and since I don’t have a factory rear sway bar or the ability to install one without losing ground clearance….this may be just what the doctor ordered.

Now to hunt for pics in this thread of anyone with 285/75R17 on a 4DR…

Did you use the extra spacers?

I was worried the 2” would make my 285/75R17 Toyo look tiny, but they’re only 1/2” shorter than the Goodyears. So, that’s promising. I’m also installing on non-sasquatch Bilsteins. So, that should make up that 1/2” and potentially loose a bit less articulation.

Thanks for posting @Shrek27
