Tailgate opening halfway and then slams back into me

I just had to check mine after the different comments. Mine opens effortlessly to the 45 angle, stops, then easily opens the rest of the way with a gentle push.
Is that not how everyone else’s works?

yours auto swings? Huh now I gotta go try again I believe mine pops open but does not open itself. It does how ever if I open it and step in immediately will close some. Def have to get to a detent for it to hold itself. I’m usually getting in my storage drawer so it’s rare that I’m not opening 90*

I was fighting mine as well being used to an FJ swing gate (also still getting used to the hinges being on the US passenger side). I thought it was a defect/bad design as well but I am getting used to NOT pushing the gate and causing the swing back. I might even start to like it one day.

Came looking if anyone else was having issues with the tailgate.
Mine definitely does not assist. And it takes a lot to of force to get to the first detent, and anything less than 90 degrees will close itself.. maybe my cylinder is weak or something.

Yes that is what all of them I have seen do. Ignore the magic green one above.

mine (21) works the same as the green one in the video. Resists a bit first, then goes 45 degree, push to 90 degree, push again to what ever degree full open is.
