Cars stopped having folding windshields standard once most of the roads were paved.
I edited my post above to add a comment about being second in line on a dusty trail. Seems you might not want the windshield down in that case. But then again, I'm not an engineer and haven't seen it in person.

Had 3 Wranglers since ‘97. Never put a windshield down because it was more effort than gain. Bit of a gimmick in my opinion.

Supposedly the original Jeep had fold down windows to fit in crates in aircraft, in addition they could fold down the window and transport wounded on a transport board or litter.

Probably just continued in on and it really is usesless
Yup, the original WW2 Jeeps had no overhead frame/roll bars and the only thing sticking above the level of the hood was the windshield. Fold that down and bam, way easier to package and ship. Jeep keeps doing it as a heritage thing, when it in all reality is just a “look at us, we’re based in the original off-road vehicle” gimmick.

2 EBs and a wrangler and never once did it either. Zero need or value. They put those things on vehicles for a reason....

Guess if you plan on poaching the fold down window is worth it.

I had a ‘14 wrangler, never even considered folding the window, of course on those JKU models it was a PITA, appears easier on the JL, I actually removed the black bumpers from my hood, looked much better

WOW!!!

A lot of people in this thread have never offroaded in a convertible before.

The advantage of a folding windshield is that the dust kicked up doesn't swirl back over the back and sides, covering you and the interior with dirt.

It's as simple as that.
Interesting..you would think it would justget all over you..especially if you are behind another vehicle

I'm glad it didn't get one - seems like an unnecessary option that wouldn't be worth the compromises.

Cool read but very happy they did opt into this. I honestly would have loved to have seen the rear window with a motor if they were trying to bring out older Bronco concepts.
Yes! Haven’t seen this talked about too much - sure there are plenty reasons not to but I loved the electric rear window on my 89

Same here. This feels like the most gimmicky feature on Jeeps IMO. I don’t think anyone who enjoys and wants the open air driving experiences takes off their doors and roof and decides “you know what would be better? Wind directly in my eyeballs at 45mph”

I also don’t really see the merits of it for off roading. It’s glass...putting it down isn’t going to increase visibility like taking doors off does.
It’s not for off roading, it’s for shooting while driving!
Bronco has the machine gun tower hole!

You only get dusted from the vehicle in front of you, or yourself under three conditions.

You're both hauling butt and you are following close.
The wind is coming head on.
The wind is tail on and faster than your vehicle speed.
