I think it is a malfunction of whatever the mechanism is that locks the steering column. From the sound and feel of it I would guess that it uses something similar to a drum brake but at this point it’s all speculation.I think a heard a weird faint "snap" on startup a couple of times. I'll keep an ear out. Are you thinking malfunction or that's just how it is at these temps?
