I think a heard a weird faint "snap" on startup a couple of times. I'll keep an ear out. Are you thinking malfunction or that's just how it is at these temps?
I think it is a malfunction of whatever the mechanism is that locks the steering column. From the sound and feel of it I would guess that it uses something similar to a drum brake but at this point it’s all speculation.

The idle time in the settings resets after the vehicle shuts off so it's almost useless. Ford App comes to life once you manually start the engine.
I had to go check and you are right, it resets after each start cycle which I think is silly. Hopefully Ford updates this over the air for those in the cold regions.

Leave the key fob in the vehicle and it will run till it runs out go gas.
Tried that. Still only goes 30 mins unless you go into the settings and turn off the 30 min idle. (Which resets on each startup). If someone can find a solution on Forscan that would be sweet!

Question: why are ppl "reporting out on" testing things that the automaker already tested- rigrously? do they not trust the automaker? Asking for a friend....

I’m not quite sure what you mean by this question. There are many areas of cold weather performance that are inadequate. Most of them seem to be due to computer programming. It is one thing to test a vehicle in cold weather, it is a completely different thing to live with it in cold weather. There are things that you need to do to keep yourself and your vehicle alive in the cold that people who haven’t lived it will never understand.

No offense, but I'm happy not understanding everything. Just sayin'

Not true. It will still ask you after 30 minutes. If you are not looking at the dash when it asks it will shut off.

Can the engine block heater be installed after delivery? I didn't get it on my build and am thinking of driving up to northern Canada soon and am realizing it probably is a good thing to have...

Any Ford dealer in Canada should be able to do that for you. I imagine many in ID and MT can do the same. Call around.

I want to know about anything and everything that could potentially leave me stranded where it is cold enough to kill me.
