With the latest MIC news I finally reached my breaking point on postponing life. However, I'm trying not to dip too much into savings, so I set a cap of $5k for my holdover vehicle, but I still wanted a 4x4 with an open air experience. That narrowed my options way down. Due to covid inflation, TJs missed the cutoff, some YJs make it but ew, a few CJs but usually pretty rough. There's the older 4Runners, but I've never liked anything Toyota. FSBs, but I've never liked them either.

Then I found this gem. I'm going to try to pick it up in a couple days. It pains me to basically pay MSRP on a 33 year old vehicle, but it's cleeean. If it falls through I'll look for another, but I'm convinced at this point Sami is the answer.

Hell yeah, Jump on it. If you can, Find an old VW TDI to transplant into it.

It's been relocated much closer to me. Still titled in AZ though.

Surviver issues aside I know guys that swap V6's in them to perk them up, like the old pushrod 4.0 out of older Rangers and Explorers.

My old roommate had one and I hated it! Way too small for me to sit in. I felt like Magilla Gorilla while riding in it. The ride was so rough. I made him pull over one time and got out and walked home the thing was so bad. 🤪

I just spent five days on the trails in various new Broncos. Yesterday I took my Samurai (YJs, SPOA, 1.6L,4.88s, 6.5:1, lockers front/rear) and ran one of the same trails. I have had Samurais (and lots of other trail rigs) for over 20 years but even with the great trail performance it delivers (and mine will do 70 on the highway/but only ~40 on the passes) it just doesn’t measure up. The trail handling comfort and the effortless wheeling ability of the Bronco has made me decide to keep my classic Bronco, but sell the Samurais. I will use those funds to buy bumpers/armor/lift/tires for my FE. It really is that good!

I found a couple more to look at over the next couple days, not quite as cherry but a bit cheaper and ones I'd feel less bad about upgrading.

I hate the wheels on the gray one but it's half the price. The white one isn't a serious option because it would take too much to get weather tight, but it's the closest to me so I want to drive it before driving hours away for a first test drive.

The missing Targa Bar and upper bars above the door are a total of 10 screws plus the seat belt upper mounts. I wouldn’t let that stop you.

Good to know. What's likely to stop me is he only wants 1k less than the red one. I might be interested at 3k, but 5k is too much.

I just drove the white one. It's had a lot of motor work done and was almost fast. No problem keeping up with traffic and went 70 down the highway with ease.
