There is a crow I have gotten to know over the last few years, and we have developed an understanding. He's wild but he spends part of the day trying to watch me through the windows, cawing at me to come out. After the first year, he started bringing gifts for me - a hot pepper, an orange lego, a cough drop wrapped in the paper right when COVID started. I have a cabinet filled with things he's brought.

When I walk the dog he flies behind, and when I walk down to the Farmers Market he comes along and waits for me. As a result, the Mennonite vendors started telling me "no charge" which has been nice.

When I'm not home, he likes to hang out down the street on the traffic light near the liquor store and taco place. I pass there on my way home from work, and he would see me at the traffic light and caw and fly behind me home. He immediately recognized my Jeep (white 4 door). There were many times I'd drive in from a 5 mile radius of my house and hear him cawing and flying behind. Sometimes I'd be out and "run into him" by surprise (he let me know real quick if I didn't recognize him).

He does not like the Bronco. I don't know if it is the change, or what is up his craw, but he flaps his wings, raises one foot, and generally complains when I pull it out of the garage.

anyway, some pics.

Huh! That pretty cool I guess, except for not liking the Bronco.

That’s pretty cool. Hopefully it learns to love the Bronco. They say crows are as smart as chimpanzees, use tools, self aware, great memory. Interesting birds.

Wild. Assuming it’s not a white Bronco? Can they interpret color? I’m going to share this story with my wife. She’s a bit of a birder. She’ll get a kick out of it.

As long as he doesn’t start damaging the Bronco. Perhaps he’ll learn to love it. Haha.

This is awesome. I’ve heard stories like this about crows over the years. Even long term studies have been done and concluded that crows have amazing memories - they can remember specific faces for over a decade.

Welp, you’re going to have to offer it your first born now. There’s no other way.

That's a neat story. It might be the change. Maybe he'll get used to it over time.

Cool and scary at the same time!

I'm curious what drives the Mennonite to not charge you.
(If only there were a Mennonite Ford dealer.)

Seriously- that crow is a Jeep cultist and just cannot get over it yet. No straight axle, ma'am. Done deal. It is not a new phenomenon- this forum is full of profile pics from guys that just cannot release themselves from their Jeep fixation. She will come around.

I walk down there with a big black crow flying behind me, and my moonstone earrings, and buy up a bunch of fresh herbs. I think they believe I dabble in dark magic. It is not a friendly no charge - they don't speak to me at all!

I buy the herbs to make my own gin.

It's a Cactus Gray First Edition Sasquatch, hard top, 4 door. Hopefully it is crow-proof.
