Yea I’m considering maybe throwing on 315 Toyo MT’s, but they’re 34.6 inches tall and 12.7 inches wide so I wasn’t sure.
Well, I feel pretty confident about the 295/70R17 (33.5x12.5) on the OBX with a +30 offset. The offset helps with avoiding any rub.

It is important to remember that you are fighting two things two things... First, the lift vs tire height, because as you increase tire size you eat away at the clearance above the wheel. Second, offset vs width, the amount of the tire that may hit whatever is inboard of the spindle.

I have a (potentially stupid) question worth resurrecting this thread, because I didn't see it answered in my forum search:

Can you have 37" tires added to the stock Sasquatch wheels? Or do I HAVE to buy new wheels and sell my First Edition all-black wheels to put on 37" tires?

(Hoping to get a yes or no and not a bunch of wise-ass "why would you want to keep your OEM wheels?!")

Assuming factory wheel (+55mm off) or matching specs, you are still slightly narrower than the Badlands 285 tire, which is thought the be the MAX width tire on a +55 wheel.
Ford, in order to get the wider 315 Sasquatch tire in there had to push the tire out and away from the Upper Control Arm . They achieved this by using less positive offset, +30mm to be precise.

That 25mm difference moved the tire out .98"
Interesting, so when shopping aftermarket wheels, if we look for offsets close to or at +30mm that could be considered optimal for maxing tire width, without presumably being too hard on the suspension components? How does wheel width factor in?

Would neutral offsets (or mild positive like +6) be considered risky for light offroading?

Best to stick with the factory offsets otherwise you risk rubbing on the upper control arm. People will do variations from this but getting near zero is likely to rub.

@ZackDanger what tips can you offer?

Here’s my “professional” opinion:

285 and narrower +55 is factory and probably best for component forces.

315 width requires something like a +30 (worth noting 4WP reports +33 is perfect…. So somewhere in there).

For a super wide look that seems to be in, +0 seems to be okay from forum members already trying… but you’re putting at least some additional stress on components, and I’m not sure exactly at what offset rubbing during turns starts to come into place with various wheel diameters.

Also worth noting that Ryan from 4WP explained that for geometry and engineering reasons, vehicles prefer to have the wheels further in than out…. Which is probably partly why the OEM offsets are as close to the inside you can get without rubbing (on the UCA at least).

I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm looking at buying 285/17/70 tires and rims that are 17" x 8.5" with +34mm offset for my 4 door base. I'm assuming I can just buy coilovers, I don't need new springs? I can go with the Special or the High Ride, depending on how much lift I want? I just want to make sure I don't order the wrong thing. thanks for your help

The springs are the coil over the shock, thus the name coilover. You can't buy them independent of each other. As far as being able to fit the tires you mentioned on a Base, you could probably get away with a 1" spacer lift from 4wp or one of the few others that are out there.

What have been deemed as the special and high rise are the suspensions that come stock on a BL or a Bronco with the sasquatch package. You currently can't buy those coilovers at the parts counter. They will probably be available in the coming months but right now 4wp has the only aftermarket coilovers for the Bronco with other brands coming to the market real soon.

I see thanks. I didn’t see the picture earlier. It makes more sense now. Thanks for your help.

Actually, with the offset and removing the crash bars, I would bet money that would would be good to go.

As a matter of fact, for my OBX, I am 99% confident that the 295/70R17 Milestar Patagonia M/T (33.5"x12.5") will fit with no other changes beyond removing the crash bars.

285/70R17 should be a 33" tire and the base has the same suspension as the OBX. The offset will prevent you from having to need additional lift. You will gain nearly 1.33" of ride height and lose 1.33 inches in clearance to the upper wheel well.

Check out willtheyfit.com tire comparison.

i hope this helps you

i have OBX with stock suspension;

17“ KMC KM719 Canyon 17x8 +35
Falken Wildpeak AT3W

Honestly drives better than stock, plenty of room, doesn’t even come close to any rubbing issues even with huge load on suspension.

Thank you. I’m going to put the tires and wheels on and see if I like it without any lifting. If I need to I’ll add a 1-2 lift. Thanks for your help.
