Sunday morning was perfect, I got up early, pancakes, coffee, etc... I finished up at the farmer's market and with the great weather, I folded the top back for my short drive back to the pad.

Got home... And nailed the garage door. Fortunately no damage, the latches folded backward (popped them back into position). I ended up washing the Bronco afterwards, it got sprinkled with ferry dry-wall dust. :ROFLMAO:

I took a closer look, the latches and top barely clear the garage door by about .5" - 1". Got lucky, won't be making that mistake again. My brain short-circuited, I've had the top down all the way for the last few weeks, and had been pulling into the garage all willy-nilly. It was just last week when I closed the top back up.

That's not the first time I've read of someone doing that on here. Glad it turned out okay for you!

Glad you have no damage. I've had the too tall truck issue and forgot to take the room antenna mount off to clear the door. Realized it when the garage door was pushed off its tracks and into the garage. Yep...one hefty antenna mount.

Pardon the mess on the floor too - I was taking inventory of my camping gear for an upcoming off-road trip.

That "Awww... F**k..." at the end sounded so sad.
My heart definitely stopped.

I think what saved me is that the garage door has quite a bit of free motion (vertical and horizontal) when it's retracted, 2 - 3" in each direction, before it stops any movement.

This is 100% my nightmare with my soft top. I’ve already caught myself pulling into a few urban parking garages where the opened top clears the entry hanging ledge just fine but gets DANGEROUSLY close to hitting the top of the automated garage doors some of these indoor lots have.

Did the same thing a week or so after taking delivery, but my garage is CMU block with arches at the entry. The front latches made contact and pushed the top down and got all the way past the arch and popped back up before I came to a stop. There was no backing out after the fact. Ended up with a bit of a puzzle on my hands having to pull all the way in, disconnect the garage door, and then removing windows and folding the top all the way back to get it out. Only damage were the 2 black marks on the underside of the garage arch. (whew!) For a while, I though I was gonna have to take out the entire opener and drive chain/support to get it out. But I got lucky and was able to just disconnect the door and put it down.

On the plus side, the soft top was easier to latch into position on the side latches when going from all the way back to just the front open after I did this.

New get home procedure - look up, if I see sky, STOP before pulling into the garage!

Never had this issue with my Jeep soft top. Waiting on delivery of the Bronco so I will definitely be testing this out when it does come.

I did a full "functional" test yesterday, everything is still in alignment and factory stiff. Glad to hear yours wasn't damaged either!

The top still locks nicely into place when fully retracted and still takes some force to lock back into position 1. No new rattles or leaks. I washed the entire rig out of guilt and shame.

I feel your pain here. I "assumed" that my folded soft top had plenty of clearance when pulling into the garage. Well, that is NOT the case. Once I saw how there is truly VERY little room, I won't be pulling into the garage anymore with the soft top folded down.

Glad to hear there is no damage!

Same thing happened to me last week brother. I saw the Pickens Party of 5 video where the mom did this and told myself I'd never drive with the soft top back in first position...only all the way down with windows off. Well the other day I wasn't paying attention, put the top back and drove in.

I also had no damage because my garage door has a lot of play, but unfortunately the 7 and 5 year old learned new words.

Went over to my buddy's place last Friday because the wife was out of town, we had a few beers. When I got there I put the top up (not latched) because his trees just litter the interior with all sorts of pedals and leaves. The entire night I'm there I keep telling myself, "don't forget to open and/or latch the top"...."don't forget to latch or open the top"

Totally forgot. It's a 3 mile straight shot up a road at 45 mph drive. I made it about 300 yards before, "WHOMP"....now we're riding in position 1!

"DON'T PULL IN THE GARAGE......DON'T PULL IN THE GARAGE!!!!"

I was much more successful with the second reminder!

A very Krista Pickens move.
