Why not mount the head unit in the back somewhere and run the extension up front for the hand set

I purchased the MTX275 Not that long ago, and had pause for a bit because I had heard a 50 w version was going to come out. But everything I had read, said it would have already been out yet it wasn't.

So I went ahead and bought the 275. Now that this one finally has come out and I see that the controls are not in the handheld, I'm glad I made my purchase.

I will say, I never thought about installing any sort of plug so that I could easily hide the handset when not in use. So thanks for those suggestions all!

Yes, for the 275 (or future 575) but on this particular one the controls and screen are on the unit so it has to be in view/reach

That 575 looks worth waiting for!!

May I jump in here and ask about where you plan to mount your antennas?
I've never had a non metal roof, so what are other options?

Was thinking a lip mount on the hood. The problem is I'll eventually need a GMRS antenna and a ham antenna. 🤔

Check out the Comet CA-2x4Sr CA-2x4RNMO antennas.
They claim extended bands 2M in FRS. I first heard of them on forums with people running 2 meter and needing to do the GMRS/FRS bands.

People are already mounting ham radios on the side of the console so this should be fine I think? There's a lot more room in the Bronco than in a Jeep and it's done all the time in Jeeps. Seems like the dash would be fine too on a rail. I wouldn't put it under the seat because it's not waterproof.

I think I'll wait for the 575 and put it behind the steering column or glove box. Or maybe inside the center console.

I really like your handset plug ideas. 👍
FWIW, the MXT500 has an IP66 Waterproof rating. The MXT575 does not.

I would say vertical mount a 575 in the arm rest storage area.

Yeah that could work. Just not sure about the antenna.
if keeping to a short version, then cowl area would probably suffice or maybe a bracket solution off one of the window frame roof rack connectors thats all metal.

More curious about cable routing than antenna placement. I think I'd just use a hood flip mount for that.

I would not recommend that, you'd be sacrificing valuable storage space.

Do the remote mount in some place hidden under the dash, under the seat, etc. My mxt275 is under the drivers seat in subaru. It's invisible and doesn't displace anything.

Here's a great video that TrailRecon made installing a Midland MXT275 in a Bronco.
