Funny honda offers the Civic in a bright green, and I seen tons of those(sarcasm) you guys right they don't offer a green color which is why it's low... NO! It's because when they do offer a green color no one buys it so why would they offer a green color on other vehicles? Also guard green is trashcan green change my mind

The reality for the graph is simple. Dealerships order cars in colors which they can push on >90% of car shoppers. And in general there are a few colors which nearly any customer who darkens the door of a dealership will sign the note on because when it gets down to it, color was not that important to them after-all.

  • White
  • Black
  • Silver
  • light silver
  • slightly lighter silver
  • extra light silver
  • slightly darker silver
  • medium silver
  • extra-medium silver
  • XXM silver
  • darker silver
  • slightly darker silver II
  • dark silver II
  • gunmetal
  • gunmetal metallic
  • light gunmetal metallic
  • dark gunmetal metallic

Don't forget, the factory is making cars in colors that the customer actually buys. And the customer is the DEALERSHIP, not you! They buy cars that move ASAP.

The number of people who special order a vehicle (yes, even Bronco reservation holder) is miniscule compared to the number of people who just show up at the dealership to buy the car CUV on the lot that screams "I want a vehicle with no character or personality, like me I have an exciting lifestyle", which will be in a no-cost paint color, and something in the list of colors above.

Agree. They want cars off the lot. The longer they stay there, the more interest on the loans they have to repay.

You realize that more people would likely purchase colors if they were actually available on the lots instead of having to special order them, I hope. I waited months and months to find a blue F150 with the options I wanted. Everything was white or gray.
Talk to a salesperson. Dealerships can always order the vehicle you want or trade with surrounding dealerships easier than you can if you have a location you like to work with.

Not sure if this holds true today, or with Ford, but with BMW in the early 2000's each dealership had a number of total monthly vehicle allocations that their ordering manager would use. If you wanted to order a specific vehicle they would simply order what you wanted and count it against their allocation. So they would "use" a vehicle slot for your order. If they had already ordered then either you wait till the following month to get the order in, or find it elsewhere.

Everything that Ford is putting out about the dealer allocation method for Bronco points towards something such as this happening.

Still true as of 2015, as no dealer close to me would order my Wrangler. I had to contact a dealer 2 hours away from me, before I found that dealer who still had open allocations. I'd assume it's still the same today.

My brother had a charcoal gray Suburban that his wife drove. His daily was a charcoal gray Mazda CX-5. When the Suburban was totaled, he bought a charcoal gray Tacoma. Which he later traded for a charcoal gray Ram 1500.

People like my brother are why we don't get more colors to choose from.

I didn't want to order one. I just wanted to buy one. They didn't have any in the region for a long time, so having it brought from elsewhere wasn't possible. I waited.

There..... Is a difference between ordering exactly what you want and buying exactly what you want? Aside from the obvious fact that exactly what you wanted only existed if you ordered it.

Yes. I didn't want to order a vehicle. I got an excellent deal on my truck and I got everything I wanted except leather seats. The vast majority of people do not order a vehicle. They buy what is available on the lot.

I miss cars of any actual color. :(
Recently I bought a red sports car (because a sports car should be red in my book). It took some leg work finding it in red. Sometimes driving the car, I feel like I'm in a B/W movie, surrounded by all the shade of gray vehicles these days.
