The Scout Reveal is Coming!

One question I have not seen answered yet is where will people buy these Scouts? Last I heard, VW told their existing dealers to go pound sand. I assume they are trying to go the Tesla/Rivian route and sell direct. However, that could get very interesting with a VW/Audi/Porsche dealer network on the sidelines with all their political power to manipulate outcomes. A separate dealer network is still possible, but I haven't heard anything about that. With 2026 closing in, they will need to answer this question soon.

I was excited to see that Scout was coming back until I found out it was foreign owned, and likely to be more badge engineering (with some tweaks that VW will call significant/extensive/insert corporate jargon of the week) than a real, clean slate vehicle and line from an American company.

I respect and really appreciate international manufacturers and vehicles (love the Toyota Landcruisers, and a huge fan of the old and newer Nissan Patrols) but a 'Scout' skinned VW appeals about as much as a Volvo or Polestar badge or sheet metal on a Geely (Polestar and Volvo are both owned by Geely).

I'd consider a new electric VW bus before I'd jump into a VW 'Scout.' But that's just me.

Aren't Jeeps partly built in Europe/China ? Wheels are
Chinese on many Jeeps. Probably many foreign parts on our Broncos too !!

It has not been announced how/where they will be sold. I’m hoping for direct sales.

VW Group North America CEO Scott Keogh told Automotive News on Friday. “First and foremost, Scout is and always was a unique and distinctly American brand — big-time Americana — so it won’t be operated through the Volkswagen brand. In fact, it won’t be operated through Volkswagen Group of America. It will be operated independently.”

March 2024:

It’s still not clear exactly how Scout’s vehicles will be sold in the US. Scout Motors hasn’t announced, yet, whether they’ll be sold through VW dealers or through an entirely separate dealer network or even just direct to the customer, the way startups such as Rivian and Tesla do.

There may be some models built in Europe and or China. AFAIK all of the Wranglers in the US are built here. I think all of the TRX's rolled off of a US line as well. But a lot of other Stelantis (formerly FCA) vehicles, like the Challenger that was built in Canada and the 2500 Power Wagon made in Mexico were not reall all that American. Againk if you are a foreign company touting made in wherever, that's great. If you are touting American and doing the bulk of your manufacturing elsewhere, I'll pass. With the end of the Hellcat, but more importantly, the departure of some execs that I really liked, I kind of stopped following anything Jeep related other than news about fun parts for the JL.

And as for parts on the Bronco and almost any vehicle ... yes, there are plenty of parts on the Bronco and almost any vehicle that are made in China and elsewhere in the world. Wheels come to mind but a lot of electronics, trim...

As an aside, since we started on EV's, the most 'American' cars are actually Teslas. The Model 3 is 87.5% US content and the S and X are also 80% or more 'American' content in addition to final assembly here.

The Jeep Compass are made in Mexico and the Renegade (no longer sold) was made in Italy.

I always viewed the Bronco as a rip-off of the Land Cruiser, they are far more similar..... And the Land Cruiser proceeds the Scout.

The land cruiser is a rip off of the original and only true Jeep (GP) which was a Ford and won the war. Hey look the chicken DID come before the egg. Lol
