With an open vehicle parked outside at night, are there any good tactics to disable the use of the garage door opener? I have Lux in the visor, however, I don't think there's anything unique to my situation.
I've heard of putting the garage door motor on a smart plug and shutting off power to the plug on a schedule, however, are there any other methods you're using?

Good topic, I don't always park mine the garage. I have to remind the wife to lock the doors due to it being programed. I like the idea of the smart plug, never thought of that. Might just order me one.

Does it actually work in the Bronco when it is not on/running? On our Jeep the built in opener only works with the ignition on. When I had an older Wrangler and an actual door opener I used some double sided tape and stuck it behind the A pillar trim plastic. You would only know to look there for a button if you installed it.

Not that anyone wants to do this but there are locks on either side of your garage door that can be slid over to prevent the door from going up. A smart outlet is obviously a better solution with less to do/remember

I think its powered off after 30 mins, don't quote me on the time, but something like that.
Good thought. I'll test it out tonight

Of course, some of us don’t have Homelink in our Broncos, and use the ol’ visor clip remote. Don’t the newer garage door opener systems have a lock button on the wall, that would prevent the remote from opening it?

I am like you guys with the smart plug, here I thought I was smart when I bought my house, hooked the garage door motor into a smart plug, then realized the motor had a built in back up battery that lasts for days 🤦‍♂️, here I thought I had it all figured out, but insted I am out smarted by a back up battery lol. But on the bright side, its a smart garage door, so when the garage opens, it dings my phone letting me know it has just opened.

Can anyone confirm what was said above, does the homelink buttons lose power after 30 minutes?

Yes Lux has a time out. I think its 30 min. For those with openers, we use the lock button on the interior controller each night. Just part of the routine.

My garage doors have manual lock inside and I can also disengage the chain.

Because I don't have Lux, I have my garage door opener hidden and hooked up to an aux switch. It won't work without ACC power.

Security through obscurity.
