I'm going to my first this weekend so I don't have a lot to add at this time. But wanted to start the thread so that others can share their wisdom about off-rodeo.

What do you wish somebody would have told you beforehand? Good or bad.

My first bit of intel I'd like to christen this thread with is: where to stay.

The events all have a "preferred host" hotel they recommend, but I'm learning this don't mean shit. Yes, you get a bit of a discounted rate. Not a lot, however. And the places tend to be pricey to begin with. Also - I assumed that the reason the hotel was "preferred" was because they would provide transportation to the event from that hotel. Not so. You'll need to rent a car or arrange a cab to get you there and back to your hotel.

The reason I wish somebody would have told me this ahead of time is: I would have picked a cheaper hotel. LOL Since there really is zero advantage to staying at the preferred place a motel 6 would have suited me just fine.

Anybody else have something to add? Something you brought that you didn't need? Something you needed but didn't bring? Whatever

Which location?

It used to be bring-your-own-coffee but I think they fixed that now, still may want to crap grab a cup on the way just in case. They provide water and plenty of snacks. Bring layers of clothing and probably a back pack. Brush up on off-road basics and Bronco facts for trivia. Don't expect them to be able to answer questions on scheduling, production, differences between models or real specific Bronco questions, they are off-road enthusiasts not Ford employees (although I suspect they have learned quite a bit at this point). Have fun.

Yeah, AirBnB is key, worked well in Moab. Where you going?

They take care of pretty much everything, just make sure you have sunglasses and a boot or shoe you can hike in (which seems obvious, but people make questionable decisions lol).

There are several reasonable hotels/motels if you go to Moab. While you do not need to stay at the "host" hotel, I did for convenience. It was pricey but worth it to me as it was set in one of the most beautifule settings in the area right on the Colorado River among dramatic red rock formations. And of course you did not have to drive to the venue as you were already there. We returned recently and would have stayed at the same hotel but it was booked up. So we stayed at the Canyonlands Best Western which was cheaper and very nice. If you stay in town in Moab, you are right in the middle of the restaurants, nightlife, shops, etc., as opposed to being away from the action so to speak at the host hotel.

AirBnb worked well in New Hampshire!

We went with friends who were in different groups originally. They let us swap around but we didn’t realize our departure times were different until the day before.

Also, bring a backpack with your snacks and such. You’ll be in an out and stopped but having quick access to your food is very convenient on the trails.

Also, the on-trail photographer will email you your photos (link to buy) a week or two after. So don’t worry!

And the off Roadeo is a great time. Come with a good attitude and you’ll really enjoy yourself!

Be aware there is no disclaimer listed concerning pets...pets are not allowed at Off-Rodeo, not even a 7lb Yorkie that seldom leaves my lap.

What off roadeo are you going to? Austin did have a shuttle
Vegas. Confirmed they do NOT have a shuttle last week.

Was a little shocked. As a guy who has organized events in the past - I just assumed everybody did this. One of the advantages normally to staying at the recommended hotel.

No worries. I've already reserved a rental car. I've got all day Sunday to kill so it will allow me to explore a little.

I thought about Vegas just because…… well, Vegas. But, I would really like to do Moab.

Briefly considered Moab but I've "Moab'ed" quite a lot over the years. And while it never gets old - I wanted to see something different.

That and.....well, Vegas!

I went to the Vegas Rodeo last year and stayed at the hotel they listed, it was nice and had a Casino 😉, the only advantage was its closer to the event, be prepared for the dirt road in your rental car unless you rented a Bronco lol, bring a jacket and backpack with you. We had a great time and I tested out the skid plates a couple times 😉 enjoy and let us know how it was 🍍🍕
