Plenty of room inside the drivers side wheel well, a little less on the passenger due to the factory sub
Thanks it looked something like that.

Do you know if the sub is standard on all trim,or not included in some models and trim?

I did this on my JK and it did absolutely nothing. There is a DB app thats from a certified company on the apple store but it is only good as your cell microphone. I measured it and i was at 70DB. Which is around the same as the bronco. 🤷‍♂️

This weekend i decided to tackle the higher than used to road noise levels on our 2 door. After gutting the interior i am surprised that other than the carpet there is nothing to help keep outside noise at bay.

Taking the interior apart was fairly easy and took under 2 hours to get it done, after a good cleaning of all the panels it was time to lay some killmat down followed by some silex foam, and some sound absorbing felt material on the plastic panels and wheel well cavity. The rear wheels line up pretty close to your ears on the 2 door, i was surprised that there is nothing there to help with the road and tire noise. All the panel clips were lines with tesa tape before reinstalling. I still have the doors to get done(ran out of material) ,but even now the drop in road noise is very noticeable, and the bronco feels more solid.

As long as we had the interior apart we also replaced some of the speakers, the B&O is lacking and the Infinity speakers made it sound much much better.

Overall a good rainy weekend project

To add to the decibel levels conversation attached is a chart for review. I did watch a video of a person measuring with a device reading of 69 decibels. The Bronco had a soft top with no FORD top insulation.

it's not included in all trim levels, but optional on most

One reason I really want to see the decibel readings too, because the top disguises a lot of body noise.
That's relatively easy to fix (and super annoying at 80 MPH if you don't fix it).

After yard work, i was able to knock out one door, I'm still amazed at the complete lack of sound insulation. Luckily for a few bucks that's easily remedied. One more door to go, then I'll take some sound readings and ask some local 2 door members if i can ride in theirs and take a baseline reading as well as get their impressions on the differences... yes i notice a difference, from the door not sounding or feeling cheap to less noise, and no creeks when you lean on the interior while driving. Based on the material specs i added 3.5 lbs of weight to the door.

Last door is done, now to find a 2 door hardtop in the Houston area to compare.

Did it make a difference... yes

Was it worth the $300 investment... oh yeah!

Last update... added some weatherstripping on the hardtop, it knocked out the wind noise coming from the b pillar. Adding rhe roof rack brought a lot of noise back lol

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but to test the improvement you just need to find someone online with the same model to go out with a sound meter app and take some readings.

Do at idle, 25mph, 55mph, and 70mph.

It won't be perfect since it won't be the same sound meter between the two, or even a quality sound meter, but it will give a ball park of if the juice was worth the squeeze.

Well, I can't help with the actual measurements, I can tell you that addressing the wind noise issue is 100% worth it.

I could barely hear the B&O system at volume 15 at highway speeds (usually was at or near 20) and can now be listening to it at 10-12, but usually 15 or less now.

That was a significant change in noise.

I plan on doing this shortly to get some actual readings, but this was definitely worth the squeeze! Rode in the back seat yesterday while the wife and inlaw were in the front, i had no issue hearing their conversation on the freeway. I was actually surprised that it wasnt loud , especially since you sit right over the rear tires.

Listening to the radio is much better now after the mods.

The doors made the biggest difference for me. My FE had a decent layer of sound absorption under the carpet though. The hardtop wind noise is a different beast.
My FE too, the top is terrible. I have noticed right where the two front panels meet in t he center by the upfitter switches it really blows. I added a JCROffroad short roof rack and its very bad now, almost to the point where I cant stand it. It makes a sub woofer type noise now along with all the typical wind noise. Going to try to make a wind deflector for the front of the rack in hopes to keep it from smashing against the cross braces on the roof rack.
