I had a torn boot on the right front axle shaft when my truck was delivered. The dealer says they won't replace the boot, they replace the whole shaft assembly, AND it's on national back order and may be a very long wait. they told me to just keep driving it.... Seems crazy to replace the whole shaft for a torn boot, anyone else see this issue??

Seems Crazy, But they probably don't have enough boots to put them in the supply chain separately. And Ford has to include the labor time to take the axle apart, clean the CV Joint and reassemble in the cost of a boot under warranty versus the cost of just replacing the whole axle shaft.

I'd also bet the replaced axles get sent to a remanufacturer like cardone, and then put back into ford stock as a remanufactured part.

There should be a universal cv boot you can order online. Just have to measure it, without removing the axle.

Pretty standard approach for shops to just replace the entire axle.

it may actually be less time / labor than replacing the boot.

National back order is another bad sign for Ford’s supply chain.

Tell them to fix the boot.

Yeah. Tie rods are pretty much the same story unless your dealer parts guy can find just the boot.. When you look online for the boot, it comes as a kit with the inner as well for about $70. That's pretty steep, seeing as a good aftermarket inner tie rod is under $30.

I used a generic MOOG boot and trimmed to fit to protect my steering rack after boot damage.
