Trail armor over side steps mount

I’d very much appreciate any feedback/thoughts as I’m new around these parts. I installed 4 wheel parts sidesteps on my 4dr wildtrack and then added the ford trail armor over the mounts. We slightly trimmed to better fit but it’s still creates gaps between the pinch weld and the armor in spots.
Question is - are those gaps gonna cause more problems and trap stuff in? Am I better removing and going with bed liner or something simple to black out the pinch weld area?
