So this appears to be plug and play but the trailer lights are cut and hard wire since people are saying there is a different wiring harness for trucks with factory installed tow package? Makes no sense.

How do you apply the trailer brakes without applying the truck brakes with this kit? Does the knob push in or something? If this isnā€™t possible Iā€™ll be looking for something else.
edit I see it has a user control mode so I guess thatā€™s how

I can't imagine the need for a brake controller towing the max 3,500lbs

When you spec the trailer tow package, there is a harness connector under the dash this accessory plugs into.

Correct. Have the redarc tow pro elite in the wife's grand Cherokee and it's significantly better than the Ford gem version in my f150 for my use of towing an offroad camper trailer.

when towing an offroad camper trailer that weighs 3300lbs (on mountain shelf trails, crawling over rocks on steep inclines or descents), yes it comes in very handy. My trailer can hit and does hit any trails that a stock rubicon or Sasquatch bronco goes.

I guess it would have been nice to have this sort of detail available when selecting options. BnP as well as other Ford docs made the tow package look to be a reciever bracket and trailer lights. I guess if it is more of a "tow prep" it's worth the cost

I remember saying something like that might be the case, but everyone said that the harness would be there anyway... I somehow doubt that, but no one will know until they are examined in the wild.

Is it worth ordering the factory brake controller or just go with aftermarket? Guessing the harness is the main benefit of the VM2DZ-2C006-A

Friken shocked that Ford is using the Redarc Pro Elite. That unit is absolute tits compared to the analog unit Ford has used on the F150 for decades (slightly different interface depending on generation).

@2Jeeps&PatriotX1 has also had this experience with the older Ford units.

We settled on the Redarc Pro Elite for our Ranger and it's worked flawlessly.

Short video of it's functions:
