Hey guys, I was approached by a few people already over on Instagram (@ohhhkevingee) and was told to make a post as it may be useful to some in this forum. Hope this helps those of you that have been looking for a board mounting solution.
I have utilized Trailrax pakrax mount to carry my boards, I have driven with this setup several times already over the course of this snowboard season; as close as Big bear roughly 150 miles round trip and as far as Utah, (1200 mile round trip). I’ve had no issues at all.
My mpg on avg without boards is between 18-20 . With the boards I avg 16-18.
Pretty straightforward mod, we used a Yakima Big powderhound mount and modified its mounting points to meet with the pak rax pre drilled holes.
So far I love this setup. If I only carry two boards which is how I have it majority of the time. Takes me less than 30 seconds to do it on my own. 4 boards, same time but with two people.
I do believe any ski mount would work for this, in my case to achieve a flush look and cause less drag, I did remove the pak rax panel as well.
This may not be a solution for everyone but hope this does help!

That's awesome. I can see that working well for fishing rods as well.

Definitely! I was actually going to originally use the smaller Rhino rack mount which doubles as a fishing rod holder but for my purpose it would not have worked out since it is a lot smaller but we did measure out the dimensions for that one and it does line up perfectly as well! Just went with a larger mount in my use.

That is a great idea. Love the ingenuity!!! I was toying with the Trailrax half rack as I don't need to have big boxes, tents, or other gear on top. I was just worried the bars were only about 21 inches apart and the specs for snowboard/ski rack is to be at 26 inches. But every company needs to put that conservative measurement as a CYA. Do the boards rattle much due to the overhang? I ride a 156 cm which would mean about 2 ft on each side +/-. Also so much easier than getting on top of the rig.

No rattle sound coming from them at all. They do have a slight wiggle from wind resistance but they do not make contact with the doors window or

That’s good to hear! And for reference that I forgot to include the boards I have carried range between 152-161 and they all fit with no issues for the bindings or possible contact points. :)
