As the title states, new TSB out. I think I've seen this happen at least a couple times on the forum

Any idea what the bracket repair kit consists of? Is the old removed and the new welded in it's place?

Good question. This just came out this morning, so without seeing the parts kit I really can't say.

So in other words, if you don't want to break it don't use it? Hilarious
Personally i think the spirit of that note is to serve a reminder to that crowd that I've seen run around in 4Lo, rock crawl, lockers etc all ON for a rip down a light FS road.
Been wheeling several times with folks new to offroad or new to lockers where I've been following them back onto pavement and had to call them after several miles of watching them violently turn with both lockers on

Considering all the engineering and software these days, kind of surprising that when the wheels hit extended straight line all pulling equally that it doesn't drop out of 4L. But yeah, Ford has brought a lot of folks to 4wd that don't know much. I don't much, but I do know to not use 4L much.

Yeah im really glad Ford didn't try and do anything more electronically than it already does..

I wish they offered a base model with a manual transfer case and manual lockers

Wait, 4L isn't for the holeshot at the 1/8th mile dragstrip!

Seriously, if that bracket is breaking, it is because it wasn't strong enough from the get go.

While I agree, you should restrict 4L to loose off-road situations, you should not be breaking this bracket as a result of using 4L on loose surfaces at reasonable speeds.

Yeah i didn't mean to come across as not agreeing with that sentiment.. it shouldn't be so fragile that you can't actually use it as reasonably intended.

The thing is, under proper usage, that bracket will probably never break. As pointed out above, it's most likely happening to people who are using 4L when they don't need to. I've had a 4WD truck of some kind for almost 30 years now, and I have only used 4L a handful of times at most. EVERY time was for a straight-line pull to get someone else unstuck. I've never needed it to get myself out of a situation, and I don't do much for rock crawling that can't be done in 4H.

Should that bracket break? No. Should designers be designing it such that it can handle well more than 'proper usage?' Yes, and point of reference most designers would rather build things that can handle well more than they SHOULD see. But bean counters got involved and said 'hey how can we make this cheaper and sell it for the same price?' and everyone has to do what they want.
